ATI HD audio crashes windows

Thread Starter
I have been having issues with my old rig, I swapped out video cards to an HD 3870 and the computer wouldnt boot into windows. We determined its the ATI HD audio. Whenever the driver for it is installed and the computer is rebooted it cant get back into windows. We have tired to disable it in device manager but it still wont fix it. Is there a way to prevent Windows 7 from automatically checking and installing that driver?

Safe mode?
And download the latest 11.2 drivers.

I'm thinking there is a hardware issue with the hd audio. It will not even boot into windows with the 3870, I have to use my new card to boot into windows and install the drivers. Then when we put the 3870 in, it will boot into windows with no problem. It see's that it's a different card, runs in full hd, then starts to install the hd audio drivers for the 3870, as soon as it reboots it all goes to hell again and will not go back into windows.

If I could stop windows from installing the audio drivers we'd be golden, but as soon as they are installed, I can disable the audio in device manager and it makes no difference, as long as the driver is installed it will not reboot.

Can the hd audio be disabled in the cards bios?
