Ah, cheers. That explains the higher temp in the BIOS then.

Hopefully the new cooler will sort it - I'll post back then.

Just reseat and reapply the thermal paste. 90% of CPU heat issues I hear about are a seating issue. Those stock intel coolers have awful fasteners that are hard to get right. Best to invest in a good aftermarket cooler.

The CPU does NOT load when you're in BIOS...

the heatsink they include is more of a paperweight than a heatsink its really really junk

I think you're misunderstanding each other - it doesn't run at load as in 100% usage, but it forces the native multiplier, in the case of the 870 that's x22.

So 0% load in Windows is gonna be cooler than 0% load in the BIOS, as in Windows it clocks down the multiplier.

Anyway, I installed the 212 Plus today and everything is fine - 50'C at full load Well, one core reaches 50'C and the rest 46'C, guess that means I applied the paste badly

As crap as the stock cooler is, I'm pretty sure mine must have been damaged. But the 212 Plus is a hell of a bargain.

Thanks for clearing that up. I knew the information, just couldn't connect it And the 212 plus is a great cooler.
