Formatting a drive for ext4?

Thread Starter
Hi,

I have a 320gb drive on a laptop where I have 25gbs partition off, but partition wizard only supports formatting for ext3, well only the freeware does as far as I know.

So, I already tried just booting from the live cd and installing to hard drive, but if I try to use all the space on the 25gb ntfs partition for a reformat to the appropriate filesystem, i get a "not enough space" message of some sort. The distro is fedora 14.

So any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm confused, ext4 should be the default file system in Fedora?

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do - do you want to wipe your 25Gb NTFS partition and replace it with an ext4 partition running Fedora?

chmicalfan beat me to it, but he is correct. The default filesystem in F14 is ext4 so I am not really sure what you are trying to accomplish. At any rate if its an additional partition that you can mount (not your OS partition) just run the following:

mkfs.ext4 /dev/<device>
mount -t ext4 /dev/<device> /mount/point

i get that the default FS for F14 is ext4. but if i boot into the live cd and attempt to use that 25gb partition i have, it tells me its like full or it doesnt have the right amount of space? even if i select "use all available".

There's probably an MBR for that partition. I would delete it and start over.

Is the drive empty and just pre-partitioned or are you using space in any of the partitions? Either way you can just delete the 25G partition inside the Fedora install and then just select partitioned space. Let fedora partition everything and you should be set to go.
