Will I need a new PSU?

Thread Starter
Hey ppl,

Was wondering if you could assist me on a little something here please.

I bought this here: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pro...=20&LanID=0AMD
to go with Athlon II X4 600e QuadCore as a bundle deal I got. Currently I have a 300W PSU and im wondering if its powerful enough to run it as ill be using 2 sata hdd's and 2 DVD-RW's. If not would any of you be able to point me in the right direction as to what I need?

Im sorry if this is in the wrong place and you can move it if needed.

Thanks in advance,

Danny

You're pushing it with only a 300W. And if it's a stock PSU I'd recommend you upgrade anyways. The Athlon is a 95W CPU, and the 5450 can consume around 150-160W.

Thanks a mill, will upgrade it. Would a 550 be ideal or overkill?

Anything under the 400-499W section on this list.

An Antec Earthwatts 430D (what robert c james posted) would be a great unit, but it's sold out at the moment (at least on Newegg).

thats ok robert, I got it from quoting your post and grabbing the link from there, it happens. Not a bad one.

http://www.dabs.ie/products/best-val...-550-5HN8.html

This looks decent enough, cheap too for my area anyway lol

You have no idea what's inside that "Best Value" unit. It will most likely die within a couple months, or fry your system. If you can only buy from Dabs, I would go with a Corsair CX430. It's the cheapest unit that will fit your needs, and is much more reliable than any of the other PSUs listed at the price/wattage.
