First Try Overclocking i7 950 Need Help

Hey I am trying to overclock my core i7 950 to 4ghz however am finding a whole bunch of different information and am a little bit confused, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The specs of my machine are as follows;

CPU - Core i7 950
CPU Cooling - Coolermaster V6GT
Motherboard - Gigabyte x58a ud3r
Ram - Corsair tw3x2gb2000c9
GPU - 2 x GTX480 SLI
PSU - Zalman 1000w
Case - Coolermaster HAF932
HDD - 2 x 120GB SSD and 4 x 2TB WD
Periferals - 1 x BD-RW and 1 x DVD-RW

Have plenty of ventilation and airflow in the case and currently my temps are about 29* idle and 38-42* under load at stock 3.06mhz. Have tried software overclocking however would rather have it stable and from bios.

Thank you in advance

Once you think you have the basics , do a small overclock , to for ex. 3.3Ghz so no worry about heat should arise.

Then when you get comfortable, increase the clocks , & the heat will follow, usually it's the limiter.

Don't use XMP or anything automatic overclock.
A good bunch of overclockers are here to help.

btw welcome to OCN

try 191X21muilt @ 1.275 volts. your rams speed is 2000mhz so have qpi @ 4000 You mite need 1.41 volts to the qpi. whit that u should be good. Watch temps i dont like over 70 deg but your fin tilll 90degs but limit is 100 degs.

good luck
