I mean, I enjoy FPS games. But never has an FPS game got me to sit down and play from start to finish in 1 sitting. That's how awesome I thought this game was. I'm.......... blown away at how INCREDIBLE this game was.

I don't know why critics bash the story. I mean, the writing for alot of it was pretty comedic/noobish if you will but the overall plot was... gripping. I kept wanted to see what came next, I wanted another cutscene to show me more. I mean, I was tired when I started the game and now Im just exhausted because I just couldn't stop playing.

The gameplay isn't your standard FPS fair at all. I cant even fathom why Guerilla put a freakin shooting range like it was CoD in the beginning of the game. It would make anyone think "Oh geez - it's another one of these games." You learn shortly that it isn't but only if you bother playing after the shooting range lol. It isn't like the previous games where it's just waves of hellghast. Now you've got a bit more variety in them - new enemy types and every level you play they've got different models (clothes are different) so it's fresh all the time. The guns are much cooler this time around for some reason, and I don't just mean the new ones. They all have these realistic but futuristic feel to them that is greatly improved on the previous game. Like the Hellghast rifle for example: I actually wanted to use it more because they improved it so much especially the holosight.
Then there are so many amazing set piece scenes. You'll be saying "WOW" like nonstop. And they're spaced apart appropriately too so it's not like they get boring and repetitive.

Graphics are tremendous as usual. Hellghan doesn't suddenly feel so dark and small. You literally travel to every part of the ecosystem - from the city to jungle to snow mountains to deserts to junkyards to freakin space. It's very reminiscent of Uncharted 2 if you will how everything changes so drastically but smoothly transitions without it being like "lolwut?" Did I mention that the MLAA used in the game makes it look like there is 16xAA on?

What also impressed me a ton more than I thought was the motion controller. I ended up buying Sony's official "Sharpshooter". It's their version of the Wii Shooter thing where you clip your controller into it. Well - hot damn it's pretty amazing. It remaps all of your controls automatically and shows how accurate the Move can be. And in game - it's AWESOME. It made the game SO much more fun and immersive. I'm not even exaggerating how much fun it made this. It's just so responsive and accurate - I don't think I could've done better than I did with a controller. Best FPS motion-controller game thus far hands down. It's incredible. I just loved taking down anything from Helghast to gigantic "Dog" robots. The only motion gestures (aka Wii gimmicks) you do is the melee and the reload. The melee takes getting used to and can be inaccurate. The reload does too BUT if you have the Sharpshooter peripheral - all you have to do is slide the gun which makes it SUPER simple and quick.

tl;dr
Overall - I'm super impressed with the singleplayer. Like blown away impressed. I want to go back and play it more, even after I just sat down after 8-9 full nonstop hours.

The multiplayer portion of the game I already know is fantastic after playing KZ2 and playing the beta of KZ3. The multiplayer is everything from KZ2 but tremendously improved upon and the multiplayer from KZ2 was simply fantastic as it was. It's one of the best FPS multiplayers going (and that's on all platforms).

Agreed.
I wished there was more in the jungle, that made me "wow" the most. It was amazingly creative and beautiful. I don't understand why people complain about consoles when they contain things like KZ3. It is just amazing.

I can't stand how light the controls feel. It's like paying any other generic shooter again. Definitely disappointed with that. Kills don't seem near as rewarding. It's just Call of Duty with a Killzone skin.

Are you really not able to spawn on squad leaders now? Squads seem to be completely fubar. Put the two of us on separate teams for a couple of the matches even. This is almost a game breaker for me. I enjoy playing with friends. But getting set on opposite teams when the game isn't even full and the team he's on has 3+ more players than mine?

What happened to lobbies, and 32 players? The option to see what was going on, choosing teams, and finding squads was thrown out? Now it's 12vs12 or 8vs8. This matchmaking seems terribly laggy and takes ages to get anywhere. I spent a good five minutes sitting at a "connecting" screen, talking to the other people waiting to get in about how much this game has dropped the ball.

The lack of the spawn point grenades is pretty dumb too. Instead, it's fight the one or two people who decide to camp the extra spawn points you have to capture.

Lack of Co-op online. Why?

That all being said, the campaign is incredible. But a single player campaign that barely passes the 7-8 hour mark with a mediocre online play just isn't worth $60.
A game shouldn't be valued on its multiplayer, that is what is so wrong with games these days. Even so, the multiplayer is perfectly fine. I'm on a university connection that gets, at best, 80K downloads. My speed is ridiculously horrible, yet I can connect to a multiplayer match in about 1 minute tops. Also, you hate when someone camps and protects something you are suppose to capture? So, you don't like a challenge? Cool.
I'm not sure what you mean by "light controls".
32 players would be too much, it is already fast paced and intense, unless you just hide all the time.
You can do "tactical spawn", which spawns with your team.
Squads, why? I personally dislike squads, it is obnoxious not being able to communicate with the rest of your team (BC2).
I do wish you could pick your team, but that isn't a bother for me.

While the controls are lighter, they are not anywhere near as light as CoD. They're still significantly heavier, or more delayed depending on how you look at it. Technically and factually, the controller response time is still much slower than normal FPS games. I certainly don't feel like its generic still.

They did kill squads. I dont like it either, I suppose I should've mentioned that.

Really? I mean, when the game first game out the night and day of - the multiplayer screen sometimes froze on me and would take awhile to get to the mode selection screen. But ever since that day, everything has been quick and surprisingly solid. Takes me like 5 seconds from the pressing of "Warzone" to get to a loading screen, and then a minute or two to get ingame.

Spawn point grenades makes things alot better in my opinion. You always had people throwing spawn gernades where they either shouldnt be or were significantly too "campy". The new tactician is much better imo.

Co-op is kind of broken enough as it is due to FPS performance. The campaign looks so good that co-op online wouldn't work. I believe thats the official word too from Guerilla, but dont quote me on it.

I'd say my "flawed" argument, coming from a person with actual experience, is a lot more valid than your own. If mine is so flawed it isn't even funny, yours is bringing me to tears with unfunniness.

The controller vs keyboard argument has been done to death many times before, and keyboard/mouse always comes out ahead in FPS games. Sorry, that's just the way it is. You can claim precision with a controller all you want, but keyboard/mouse is still the more accurate, more responsive method to use.

I NEVER said kb/m is NOT more accurate or responsive. Why you even said this I don't know as I specifically said the opposite multiple times.

People can beat me down because I've been playing for a couple of months with a controller, and they've been playing for years. I'd bet many people who have rarely or never played on a console would have the same difficulty grasping it. Just because you say it is not difficult to grasp doesn't make it true. Go give your controller to your mother and see how easy it is for her to grasp. rolleyes.gif

Oh, and get over yourself. Seriously. You need to step down your ego a few notches.

Actually, it's pretty easy for my mom or dad to play games with a controller. Much easier for them then it is a keyboard or mouse. My dad and I used to play Starfox 64 and my mom and I Zelda Ocarina of Time as well as Megaman Legends on PSX. In contrast, I've had they try multiple PC games and they always find the keyboard confusing unless it's some simple game like Bejeweled or poker where it's point/click. You chose a bad person to say that to.

It's all personal I suppose, but alot of you people make controllers out to be way worse then what they actually are in comparison.

"Just because you say it is not difficult to grasp doesn't make it true."
Just because you say it's too difficult to grasp doesn't make it true. Done deal dude. You say it, I say it, vice versa. You're getting nowhere.

Earlier, I was watching the behind the scenes for Killzone 3. Pretty awesome stuff.

During the game, I did notice the cutscenes were excellently directed but I didnt know it was the same guy who did Resident Evil 5. Everything makes sense now, his style is written all over the cutscenes. Pure excellence in my opinion, regardless of an opinion on the story.
What I did recognize during the game was the way the cutscenes were done. The technology was the livemotion camera and the behind the scenes confirmed my suspicion. It's a camera that they can use during motion capture scenes that lets the director and actor actually see what they're doing in game rather than imagine it in their heads, and also allows the director to make changes in real time regarding how they want things done. Lastly, they get real time control of how the camera in the game works during the scenes rather than computerized. In other words, if you notice during alot of the cutscenes - the camera shakes almost as if someone is actually holding the camera organically. Thats because someone in real life actually is holding the camera in a virtual space if that makes any sense. I love that stuff biggrin.gif Good stuff.

It is harder to play with a controller than a keyboard and mouse. The two will never be equal regardless of whatever said gamer might prefer. Which why I'm interested in giving the move a try using the sharp shooter. I know it isn't going to be as good as the keyboard/mouse. But maybe it could make the game a little more fun.

Still, I'm having a hard time spending another 40 dollars on this gun.

that was my problem too - the $40 was iffy but I thought back to when I bought the Wii Sharpshooting thing was like $30 and that was GARBAGE. It was a cheap plastic holder. Plenty of people bought it, and Nintendo made away with so much damn money on the crap. I was inclined to buy Sharpshooter because it was so much more high quality, and it actually remaps the buttons on the Move to the buttons on the controller unlike the Wii garbage that did nothing but hold the thing.

I kinda wish I bought the Collector's Edition to see some of that back scene making of the game. Game is wonderful, I kinda wish we could pick teams like the older KZ2. Hows the headphones/Mic use on this game? Can you talk to your whole team? I've got a logitech headphone/mic but haven't used it for this game yet, it was extensively used for Call of Duty games.

the story/campaign is well done... the multiplayer is not, the story is only half of the game just like with most you get your worth from multiplayer imo anyway. They also took out being able to listen to your PS3 music while playing multiplayer online. They had that option in #2 mad.gif

woo got my sharpshooter in the mail today, gonna try it out soon. move + 3D should be very interesting indeed.

just did the mission where you are in that 2-legged frog looking mech thing, that mission in 3D blew my mind.

im LOVING killzone 3, epic game.

just got to that jungle looking stage.

Edit: ok, before I ****ing break something, how the hell do you calibrate the motion controller in this game? Keeps telling me to keep still and avoid sunlight. Tells me that one more time and I'm gonna go find someones face to break.
