It seems that using Driver Sweeper to clean old ATI drivers inadvertently removes some files that windows is looking for which stops SP1 from installing. I still haven't gotten it to install after getting 3 different error codes but I think it is just a matter of getting all of the old ATI driver files it is looking for into the right location.
Funny because I am having the issue where the install tells me critical files are missed or corrupt. I ran sfc/scan now and it flagged a ton of nvidia drivers which normally Driver Sweeper cleans up. I also have ATI chipset and I cleaned up those too.

In any case sfc repaired some files on reboot but that didn't work. About to run the readiness tool otherwise I might just do a fresh install. One thing that comes to mind is I forced Windows into recovery mode with a patched file to block the message about it so I could install unsigned drivers (windows 7 x64 home premium offers no method to install unsigned drivers) so my issues/experience is more than likely related to that.

Which one is sp1? I am confused My windows update is screwed I can't seem to download it from there. I certainly hope it isn't the 1.9GB file. If it is, why on earth have they merged SP1 with server 2008?

If your installation is 32-bit, then it's the one you've highlighted. If your installation is 64-bit, then use the next one up.

Also, those that missed it before; SP1 does provide basic USB3.0 drivers. At the moment you shouldn't need them since to my knowledge there are very few (if any) chipsets with USB 3.0 integrated, but once that changes you will need those basic drivers that you get in SP1.

Been trying to get an answer on my posts, perhaps you might know?!

Any info on what SP1 has besides its large collection of previously available updates? Besides the USB3.0 drivers?

Correct, if you have USB 3.0 ports, 99% chance that its controlled by a 3rd party and you will need those drivers.

Tons of hotfixes and minor patches, nothing very noticeable; supposedly floating point operations have improved in some cases, too, but that's for the other thread (SP1 performance analysis). I do have a PDF with every hotfix and patch in the release candidate (most of which should exist in this final download) but honestly there are so many hundreds of them that I'd rather find the link to it again.

Resuming from sleep has also been quickened. If anyone was having sleep issues, this may resolve them. Since there are 101 different symptoms and causes for sleep problems, an emphasis should be put on may.

FYI if anyone is getting this error when they try to install:
0x800F0A12
and they have a Linux distro installed on another hard drive then you need to either disconnect the SATA cable or disable the drive in the BIOS. It seems that Windows marks any bootable partition as active and this confuses SP1 installation into thinking that it's a Windows system partition. This is kind of silly considering that my /boot partition is ext2 and can't be read by Windows natively anyhow....

Just thought I'd mention it since googling the error codes yields several forum posts, but no real relevant answers.
