Good dvd ripper?

Thread Starter
I currently have a load of DVD's which I want to store on my computer so I can watch at any time without the disk, I have attempted to download some ripping software but it says the disks are protected and they can't rip protected disks. Can anyone suggest a good program to do this?

Also, would this be illegal? I am simply putting what I have bought onto my computer, the content will not be distributed but will be kept for personal use.

I use DVD Shrink to retain menus and extras.
Use Handbrake if you just want to rip just the movie itself.
I'm no expert on law, but I do not think what you want to do is illegal.

DVD Decrypter also works pretty darn well.

And as for the legality, I believe you are allowed to make a "backup copy" of your DVD media, so you should be okay so long as you are not distributing the ripped DVD.

But they still do their job! No need to fix what isn't broken.

Yeah, but they don't do the job anymore, most DVD have protection they can't rip.
