Need a little help... Toshiba Satellite owners needed..

Thread Starter
I'm repairing a Toshiba Satellite laptop Model L305-S5937 that has Windows Vista on it. The original drive died and the owner bought a new one.. The laptop has the COA for vista on the bottom, however, the versions of Vista I have does not seem to like the COA.. Strange.. It is a valid key..

I'm in search of a Toshiba version of Vista 64bit (SP1), if anyone has it could you make an ISO of it, and I'll setup a FTP account over here for you to upload it. I'm a PC tech, and I've never had a problem before until now... I'm assuming its the version of Vista and the COA not meshing... and having a 64 BIT Toshiba version of Vista may do the trick...

Thanks in advance...

Joe

If the hard drive is dead, where would the image be stored on?

im not sure. but wouldn't hurt to try it.

also it would be illegal and against ocn tos to get a ripped image of an OS. you can get the iso elsewhere *wink* but you should really go get a legit copy to reinstall.

that being said, the key is paired with the mobo, not the drive, so the problem shouldn't be the os on the broken drive.

do you have a copy of windows 7 you could try? just to help isolate the problem

something that just came to mind. are you sure your using the right bit? (32 or 64)

if you try to install a 32bit os with a 64bit registered key, it will not work.

edit: that laptop comes with a 64bit os, so you need to install using a 64bit cd (or making sure to select the 64 bit option on the cd)

my windows 7 ultimate cd has 32 and 64 on the same cd which is nice, but i remember my home premium disk had 2 disks, one on each.

you may want to see if you can download a vista 64bit iso via torrent, or something of the sort, which im hoping wont get yelled at by the mods, as it isn't illegal if used for something you already own. i think. lol

Yes, I'm aware of that... Ripped version is still legal, as long as I use the COA on the bottom of the laptop.. Which I will be doing.. If I used a fake key, I could understand the concerns... I just need the OS... I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble here... I just don't have a legit copy of the software, since I never owned Vista, but as a PC tech, I need it to repair this laptop, and will be legal once I re-install and use the COA on the bottom... There is a fine line here for legality purposes... I can't see purchasing software, where I already have a valid key for the software... I just don't have in in my possession. I do have other means of getting it, <wink>, just wanted a "known good" copy from a member here to help me out...

i understand where you are coming from, but i think the other means of getting the software is your best bet if the 0 trick doesn't work.
