1600MHz CL8 v 1333 MHz CL7

So once Bulldozer comes out, my current Ph2X4 rig will becom the family rig, which means I dont get to keep my current memory.
So Imma buy a 2x4GB kit to use with the 965 until release and then use it with SB or BD (depending on which has best bang for buck and assuming SB is available again)
Question is do I go 1333 CL7 or spend an extra ~$30 for 1600 CL8?
Any AMD benches would be great. I saw on toms that LGA 1155/1156 both like the 1600 more, but does the AM3 like slower CL7 or faster CL8?

I usually agree but 1 CL higher with a 266MHz speed increase sounds like similar or better performance to me. Benchmarks anyone?

i just bought new ddr3's recently and had the same dilemma. my choice was 1333 cl7 or 1600 cl9

i went with the 1333 7-7-7-21 ddr3. however, i knew my bios would give me the option to speed it up a notch to 1600, which it did. i tried 1600 @ 8-8-8-22 at stock voltage and ran memtest x86 4.2 for 7 passes. no errors:)

so, i basically purchased a 1600mhz cl8 ddr3 for the price of a 1333mhz cl7:)

had i gone with the 1600 cl9.... i would have been stuck with those timings @ 1600mhz, i think.

so there, in my opinion..... go with the lower speed tighter timings smile.gif as i am sure that 1333 cl7 will run just fine @ 1600mhz cl8, and save $30:)

1600 CL8 will have more performance than 1333 CL7. Plus, most 1600 kits overclock better than 1333 anyways.

Yugimt has pretty much summarized here. To go into detail, 1333 CL7 is around equal to 1600 CL9 in performance benchmarks and price, but most 1600Mhz kits overclock better anyway.

Anything over 2600Mhz North Bridge and you'll find lower speed with tighter timings hammers higher clocked kits with loser timings.
