I'll put this flame suit on, since I'm going to be called an trolling apple fanboi.
You are a trolling apply fainboi!!!

Though, in all honesty, the main reason I belive they have the market share is due to the fact that they had one of the first "good" smart phones on the market. They were worlds ahead of blackberry from a usability standpoint and that won them the gold. I doubt they are loosing total users, just that people with regular phones are picking up non-apple smartphones (and blackberries, because they suck).

Is it me or this posted every other week here?

Obviously Android is going to have more market share by simple virtue of market volume. Duh.

Not really. If you look through a few forums you'll find quite a few hundred rants on iPhoners making the switch. Apple shot itself. They've waited far too long to separate from AT&T, and when they finally did, they go for ONE extra carrier? Every single iPhone owner I know in person has had horrible experience with AT&T, and I don't question them as even their internet service is horrible. Those that got fed up with it switched to T-Mobile/Sprint/Verizon and took advantage of a sick Nexus S, EVO, or Droid X, and don't look back at the iPhone now that they've experienced Android. Now I'm down to 3 friends (2 of them are brothers) that are sticking to their iPhones and won't let go.

Obviously dewd, duh.

In the end, the buyers are choosing "Android or iOS," and clearly they're going for Android.

At the same time, there are lots of people I know and have seen who do not like the rather draconian interface and feel of Android and instead, prefer the ease of use, predictability and incorporation with iTunes.

Apple won't be overly concerned with the market share as it's rather biased towards those with the most phones. However, I think it will cause them to innovate a little more!

Gotta love OCN's anecdotes.

I don't know; I feel that the iPhone 4 didn't offer much over the 3GS aside from being quicker and having a front camera. Apple typically works that way: release a pretty nice product (iPhone was no doubt the first smartphone to launch the market) but then everyone else stomps over them with the same product for a lower cost. iPod to Zune is another example, but I won't go into that.

That was actually the first thought that came to mind.

I see your point, but in the competitive world it doesn't matter in the end. Apple is killing itself by being so restrictive and refusing to widen their spread. They're a bit late to the game NOW coming to Verizon years after the iPhone is old news. Of course Android has more phones, that's its whole purpose. Open source software. I think the iPhone will disappoint this time around (iPhone 5) and will be lacking in hardware compared to the new Android's we'll be seeing through the summer.
How it performs is no where near the point of the article. Android is slowly becoming a near standard on every smart phone. Regardless, they're calculating how many smartphones were sold/contracted with the Android OS on it. 10+ Android phones vs. 1-2 models of an iPhone...kinda common sense.

And a few million dollars in advertising for each to throw them in everyone's faces. Android phones until only recently didn't have much advertising, if any at all. I don't remember seeing a single Android commercial (G1, MyTouch days) until the Motorola Droid hit. It's basic psychology. Throw something at everyone constantly everywhere they look and they're sure to buy it over something that is rarely or never advertised. They see it more often and for some reason the general public's minds urge them to go for the most heard of choice.

10 or so phones, but spread out across every provider you can imagine. I guess my main view is if someone has been wanting iPhone, they have it by now and it's near its peak.
