Low FPS in Northrend (WoW)

Thread Starter
I'm still new to WoW, adding something to kill the time after work, so bear with me here. In Northrend, I'm running about 30-45 FPS outside (everything on 'Ultra'). This doesn't seem right, due to the fact that in Azeroth and Outland I was running above 100FPS with my current setup [albeit limited by Vsync]. Any tips? Is this normal?

Should be good, the FPS in wow is area-dependant. Recently build a new PC for a friend (Ati 6950) and it hovers between 30~350fps depending on where he is and what he's doing.

populated cities dramatically dropping FPS in WoW? Sounds normal to me.

OIC Northrend is the new continent or whatever. Was thinking its a town. Clearly i do not play this game anymore... Anywho, ignore me.

Simply lower the shadows and view distance - also remove sunshaft and all the new features... completely useless

Remove AA aswell, it makes no difference in WoW for some weird reason

no that sounds wieird to me. With my 5770 I averaged around 50 fps when i was in northrend. It does depend on location, like in dur'zuland (or whatever it is) I got really good frames, upwards in the 100s. but in grizzly hills I would get between 45-60.

Interesting. It feels odd to turn down the shaders on a system that should be able to put this game in the 100's consistently, but I'll give it a shot and report back.

It's not your system, shadows and sunshaft + viewdistance ****s up almost any system well your GPU still isn't the best to handle all that but yea

wow is a old game but with so much going on it kills a lot of fps, but kill shadows and view and you`ll be fine on my 5770 in org i get 90 fps in raids or dungeons i usually get around 70+ at all times
post #10 of 14
Turn your particle density down (unless you're raiding). Turn your view distance down and you should be good.
