Troubleshooting system performance.

I have been getting low minimum FPS down into the high 20's during 5v5 team fights in a dota clone called Heroes of Newerth regardless of graphic settings. The game only uses a single core and maxes it out at 100% usage. When big fights aren't happening the FPS ranges between 80-125. The games requirements:

Quote:
Windows

Minimum:
Processor - 2.2GHz Pentium 4 / AMD 2400+ or faster
RAM - 1GB of RAM
Video Card - GeForce 5 and ATI 9800 w/ 128 MB VRAM
Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7
Network Connection Required

Recommended:
Processor - 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo / AMD 3500+ or faster
RAM - 1.5GB or higher
Video Card - 256MB Geforce 7800+ or Radeon X1900+
Network Connection Required (Broadband)
My sig rig obviously exceeds these by a long shot. I tried contacting their support and after months of trouble shooting and ignoring my problem their response is this:

"Well, I can't think of anything other than a bad driver causing problems. People play HoN just fine with lower specs, so the inefficiency in this case is in a dependency rather than HoN's code. "

The problem with that reply is that every other game I play seems to run just fine. I set the bios to optimized defaults, stock i7 920 with HT on, 3GB of 7-7-7-20 1066mhz ram etc. The GTX460 is the 768MB version running at 763 core using the 266.58 drivers.

Vantage defaults with physx off = P14469
Vantage CPU score = 17255
Vantage GPU score = 13730

Resident Evil 5 fixed benchmark, 1680x1050, DX10 4xaa all settings maxed and the minimum FPS was 84.

Dirt2 benchmark, 1680x1050, DX11 4xaa all settings maxed out and the minimum FPS was 61.

Cinebench 11.5 64bit CPU scores a 4.78

Looking at those numbers, is there something wrong with my rig that is causing the low minimum FPS in heroes of newerth? Am I absolutely crazy to think that this problem IS indeed associated with heroes of newerth and its engine?

Yes overclocking my CPU does raise the minimum FPS but I refuse to overclock my CPU just for one game that has a recommended system of a 2Ghz C2D and a geforce 7800.

What about your internet connection? Maybe that's causing issues. Are your ping times normal for the servers (you have to compare with someone who has the game and no slowdowns)?

I get the same performance while watching downloaded replays so my connection was eliminated as a potential problem during the troubleshooting with their support.

Have you tried driversweeper and re-installing drivers?

Yes I have for the GPU but the problem with this game is a cpu problem it seems, my GPU only gets about 20-30% load.

I was expecting more replies .

It seems other people are getting similar performance in HON with pretty fast PC's and S2 refuses to acknowledge the fail in their single core engine.
