Online?

Hi, I am totally new to PC Gaming, going to pick up an Alienware M11X. Just a few questins about gaming in general.

Is it totally free to play games like COD, BFBC2 etc online?

Can I play online with users who have an xbox, if I am playing a game for windows? Or is this not possible at all?

Is there mods available for games like COD, for the zombies, and user created maps that are downloadable?

I currently have an Xbox, can I use my controller on my Alienware M11X?

Thanks

Is it totally free to play games like COD, BFBC2 etc online? yes all you have to do is buy the game and online is free.

Can I play online with users who have an xbox, if I am playing a game for windows? Or is this not possible at all? depends on the game there are a small few games that support cross console online, other than that your mostly playing vs other people on computers which is a lot of people so dont worry about not finding a game. even old games people are still playing online.

Is there mods available for games like COD, for the zombies, and user created maps that are downloadable? Yes there are mods from maps to the way the weapons look etc etc just search around a good place for mods and addons go to http://www.moddb.com/

It's free if you buy the game, no monthly subscriptions This is not an mmo

No.

PC gaming is all about mods, some games support it.. some don't. Go play Promod (COD MW) or BF2 (Project Reality) or whatever mods you want.
There will be mod tools for Black Ops soon

I don't even know what Alienware M11X is (I guess some wannabe gaming laptop) but you can use Xbox controllers for PC gaming yes, I don't recommend it, PC gamers will pretty much *DESTROY* you (and I mean it)

Thanks

You can play shadowrun and a couple others cross-platform. BLOPS and MW2 are a no though.

You'll get a hundred different answers for this. I think the G500 is a great place to start though. However, it all depends on your particular type of grip (palm, claw, fingertip, etc).

Is there any low-mid price ones that are designed for ease of use?

Also if I buy a headset, can I talk to people in-game or do I have to run something like skype to talk to them?

its all up to preference, i use razer mouses

most games have a voice program built in so you can talk to people on the server you are in, but if your playing with a clan or friends there are things like ventrilo and teamspeak which are voice server programs.
