recovery harddrive questions

i'm working on a new build using a gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 mobo
i have a ssd: G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series FM-25S2S-60GBSR that i will use as the boot drive.
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB will be my data drive
i also have a sata 1 seagate barracuda 7200.7 160gb that i would like to use as a recovery drive for the ssd.

how many hd's can i put on the GA-P55A-UD3?
the pic below is the internal connections; i have 6- sata2 and 2- gsata3 plugs on the mobo.

i want to load win7 & autocad onto the ssd do all the set up and tweaks and then make a recovery drive on the barracuda.
what is the best way to make a recovery drive?

my build as ordered

I make a system image with clonezilla and store it on my internal 2tb seagate 5600rpm backup driver. If I need to recover I boot from clonezilla again and restore the image.

the best way would be to make a mirror from the SSD to the Seagate drive with RAID1, but i don't know if that is possible and the performance implications of that.
The other route is to make backups of the entire drive through software, like Norton Ghost, and store them in the Seagate. the incponvinience of this is that the backup isn't on the fly, but with timed intervals that you may choose.

i checked out the clonezilla.org site, good stuff. freeware to boot
does it make sense to use the seagate 160gb drive just for backup images?
i have no other use for it...
i could image my initial setup and one with all my stuff on there.
then unplug it from system

matroska
i am a semi-newb, i thought raid needed identical hd's?
not really interested in raid right now. hence the ssd.
i checked out norton ghost... i'm not a symantic fan.
$69 for something i may never need again.

anyone know how many drives this mobo supports?

Yeah I use clonezilla for Linux and windows it is really simple.

Since you have an old drive it's the perfect use for it. I have an internal drive for frequent daily backups of documents etc and I copy that to an external once a month. I just do a system image right after the os and programs are installed and store that on both backups. That way I am pretty safe.

I just tried to point you in that direction, i don't really like Symantec either, although Ghost is a little good backup software but i was just trying to give an idea, not recommending norton

Raid doens't strictly need twin drives, you can make a RAID0 setup with both disks on my sig, but the second won't use all of its space. Mirroring though, isn't the same as RAID0, as you are not "dividing" the file writing between the drives, but only replicating the files on a 2nd HDD...but nevermind, you already found a solution

i googled quite a bit on this subject
found this site that indicates win7 has all the necessary means to make an image
it gives a Creating-a-System-Recovery-Disk-in-Windows-7-A-step-by-step-tutorial

this is exactly what i'm looking for
