Can't get maximum resolution on HDTV

Thread Starter
I have a Philips 20PF4121 20" LCD TV. I checked in the manual and it said it can support 1280x768 with WXGA. What does this mean exactly? I'm currently connected using DVI. However, choosing PC as input would only allow me 720x480. Choosing HD as input allows 720x576. I can't go any higher. Any ideas?

Here is the manual if it helps:

Your supports translating 1080i into it's native res.

If you go to NVidia Control Panel, / change resolution you should see a box with PC res and HD resolutions. You can select either your TV's native 1280x768, or go with 1080i which will display pictures etc in the correct proportion.

If you go with native, you can run through the Media Center setup, which will have settings to make things scale correctly.

If 1080i isn't listed, you can make it with a custom resolution. Click on the Customize button, and check 1080i. Then it should appear in the list and you can select it for the TV.

Yes I am connecting my PC. Yeah I know it's only 720p. I wasn't expecting 1080. However, in Nvidia control panel, there are only 720x576 and 720x480.

EDIT: When I uninstalled the drivers, it went to 800x600!

In the Nvidia control panel you should be able to create a custom resolution if the one you want does not appear.

Go to Change Resolution -> Customize -> Create Custom Resolution

I tried that but it says the monitor does not support that resolution. However, for some reason, I can now change the resolution in display options to 1280x720 and even 1920x1080 by listing all modes. Of course though, the text becomes fuzzy and image is squashed.

I took a look at the manual you posted. It seems as though you have limited resolutions through the PC input versus the "video input". I am not sure if video input is HDMI, composite, etc, but you will have to get your PC hooked up to one of the non-PC inputs to get the higher resolution.

Where did you get that from? I can't seem to find that in the manual lol. Either that or I'm blind. I've been looking at P.10 and P.13.

I searched google for your model number and found it on the manufacturer's site.

Edit: http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/2/2...01_pss_eng.pdf

Edit2: it looks like that might be a different model. Your model says to use 1024x768 @ 60hz. That should help the fuzzy text issue.
