Hitachi® DeskStar 7200RPM

Thread Starter
I was wondering. Since the Samsung F3 already got a reputable name and best price how about the Hitachi's? I'm just wondering just for future options. They seem to have good price and on par with the F3's.

Thank you. Much appreciated.

A lot of people will associate the DeskStar to the whole 'DeathStar' stigma as ~6-7 years ago there was a high failure rate with this product line.

I recently bought one of the 1 TB Hitachi's (Newegg $55 shipped, woo) and added it to my file server. It easily outpaces all of the other drives in there (not surprising with higher density, although >30 MB/sec increase in sequential reads) and hasn't had a problem playing nice in a RAID 5 array.

I got two back to 2009, and they work fine so far.

I've had two for just over a year. The first drive I purchased just recently had to be rma'd and the second drive is now showing signs of an issue. At least the RMA turnaround is fast.
