First overclock I7-950 - Page 2

Im still working out the kinks with mine... At 3.90 right now, about 4 hours into prime.

vcore - 1.31 Load (1.29v bios)
vtt - 1.29
nb core (IOH Core) - 1.35v (can probably still lower)

Temps at load
73
72
74
70

Patiently awaiting my new water block redface.gif

Mpst of these chips do 4.0 easy on low volts, then need a little bump to get to 4.2 - 4.4, vcore is good up to 1.45 - 1.5 if you can handle the heat. Keep all the other volts 1.35v or lower (vtt & nb core) thats according the the intel data sheets....

My max temps I have seen were 77C on cores 1&2 74C on cores 3&4 and that was for a very very short time about 9 hours into prime. Its almost ALWAYS @ 74, 74, 71,71. We have the same cooling and I dont know if you have the stock fans but I replaced mine with GT ap15's and Honestly didn't see much temp improvement but the noise level dropped alot so was well worth the dough spent. Either way Good luck and see you in the 4ghz area sometime!

+1
Thanks , so should i increase the v-core only , i tried it around 1.22volts at 4.2 ghz NO GO. shoud i increase any other voltages along with the vcore?

I really didnt have to change a whole lot and the features I put as (auto) either have the option of auto or I simply did not touch so it was what my board defaulted with. I also have a slightly slower clock than him. I am sure you can try out some of those settings and then tweak to what YOU need. Every chip with be a bit diffrent. My buddy just got a 950 yesterday with the exact same mobo as me and he was able to mimic my settings to a T but with lower Vcore. He is able to run stable 2 steps down with a slightly cooler temp. Have fun =)

Really the main things you will have to just rial and error on are the main voltages..

Code:
evga vdroop control - without vdroop (IMO the best setting)
cpu vcore - (1.30v should be good to about 4.0, beyond that will need a jump to 1.35 - 1.37)
cpu vtt voltage - (+100mv good for 4.0, beyond will need +200 - +250) =250 = 1.35 - 1.40
cpu pll vcore - 1.80 is fine
ioh pll vcore - auto
qpi pll vcore - 1.35 - 1.40
dimm voltage - 1.650
dimm dq vref - +0mv
ioh vcore - 1.35
ioh/ich i/o voltage - auto
ich vcore - 1.10

This EVGA x58 i7 Voltage Guide from evga forums should help a bit. It explains what each voltage setting is for...

4.0ghz and stable!!!!!

Ok ,I first want to thank everyone again for the tips, and all there experience. I cranked it up to 4.0ghz building on what i had. I ran my cpu for 4 hrs yesterday morning . It ran good wth no issues. I turned on prime 95 , and it blue screened in less than 5 minutes. I restarted it and it blue screened again in less than 30 seconds ,after turning on prime. I left all my settings alone and turned of v-droop. I ran prime 95 for over three hours this morning, With tons of tasks going on, music, video, skype, other, live streaming video, and multiple websites. I have prime running again in the backround for over a hr, i plan on letting it run all day. I really think/hope its stable. I am really really happy with the perfomance.
