Help diagnose my dad's old PC?

post #1 of 8
Thread Starter
My dad uses his PC for the most basic things. Youtube and eBay Turbo Lister and the most straining applications he runs.
It's started running slow lately so I;
Installed Windows xp Fresh
Installed an extra 1GB of RAM
Updated drivers.
Still no progress, though things load smoother, eBay Turbo Lister continuously crashes.

I've taken a huge CPU-Z Screenshot to see if anyone can help diagnose the problem.

I'm unsure on PSU - The whole build is 4-5 years old.

Could be the system is just starting to give in since it is pretty old.

its an old 939. Its normal. Just check out how slow the core speed is and how high the voltage is. It would be better to just upgrade to a AM2/AM2+/AM3 platform.

monitor temps, and maybe get one of these to test the psu.

Could be the harddrive. My mum's PC is insanely slow (because of the worn out harddrive) despite being on a pretty decent spec rig.

as mentioned above, hard drive could be culprit. get a $20 80g or so drive. thats an ide/ata-6, not sure if your dad's rig uses sata, but this drive is pretty cheap ($0.50/gb) so you would get your moneys worth if it makes your rig work.
