580GTX would always be better I fear a faster card singularly will always out perform an SLI rig because some games and programs can not utilize the SLI, so they just run off one of the cards.

fewer and fewer games are coming out that dont support sli/xfire. 460's are faster

If you're looking to meet and slightly exceed a GTX 580, SLI 560s are your best bet for cheap(er) performance. But if you think you may want more, a single 580 leaves the door open for another down the road, and literally world ending power.

Same opinion as Cyborg ... basically, GTX580 will give you plenty of gameplay ... and when you think it's times to bump performance ... you just get a new 580 and bammm! You'll be ok for the next 2 years or so
post #10 of 63
Having 2 580s is a collosally stupid move considering the next gen is going to blow them away. Just get 2 460s and overclock them, youd be daft not to. And trust me, any game that doesnt support sli, will likely be ancient and wont even need to use two cards, every game I play has 0 issues, and my 460s give me 38 fps in unigene with everything maxed at 1920x1080. They destroy a 580 and cost you less.
