Another thread for temp questions

Alright, so here's the deal.

Right now I have both my i7 920 and my GTX 470 on water. Just a very basic loop, Res → pump → cpu → 1x120 rad → gpu → 2x120 rad → res

Here's my question. My cpu block is the MC-TDX from danger den, and my gpu block is the 470 block, also from danger den.

My cpu is OC'd to 3.5 GHz @ 1.09v (←this is decent right?). My gpu is stock. The "problem" I'm seeing is that my processor seems to be running a little warmer than I think it should, idling around ~41C, while my gpu idles around ~37C. This seems kind of backwards to me. Even at load, like in games, my gpu runs cooler than my cpu.

I was wondering if it could be my cpu block? Or maybe I'm just over estimating what I should be getting out of this loop?

If you don't mind I'd really appreciate your thoughts before I convince myself to try a different waterblock.

GPUs run cooler than CPUs on watercooling because the size of a GPU die is much, much larger than the CPU die, giving it more room to transfer heat.

Go download the programs LinX and Furmark, and run them at the same time. Then post back here with your temperatures after 30 minutes, then we can decide if your temperatures are good or not. Idle temperatures mean nothing.

41 sounds high for the cpu when idling but I'm not familiar with that water block. I'd expect closer to <30c under water going up to 50-60C at load, particularly as your overclock is low. What are your load temps? What are your ambient temps?

I've stress tested my cpu using the linpack test in OCCT, and it maxed out at 63C.

I've just downloaded both linx and furmark though and I'll give them a shot and report back.

EDIT:
ambients are around 21-22C

Your vcore is very low, which is a good thing of course, but this should mean your temps should stay low as well.. especially with watercooling. I'm thinking 63 degrees is kinda high indeed.

Alright, so after about half an hour running Furmark and Linx, my cpu maxed out at 64C, and my gpu maxed out at 55C.

A funny thing happened though, while it was running, about 10 minutes in, Furmark stopped reporting a tempurature from my gpu. I had hardware monitor running though, and that kept recording so I don't know what happened there. I think I might run the tests again for longer over night.

What speed are your fans running at? I would expect less than 45C on the GPU and less than 50C on the CPU.

My fans are running on their max setting, approximately 1900RPM in speedfan. For reference they are all these.

More or less anyway. My HAF came with red leds and I modded them to green ones.

Bump/thoughts

So I did a little searching, but the only flow rate data I could find for my cpu block was using this flow rate estimator, and I don't know what to think. It tells me that I should be acheiving about 2GPM. I don't have any flowmeters, but going into the block I can feel the tubing hum a little with the flow, and coming out I can't feel anything. My pump is supposedly running at 800 Liters per hour (or about 3.5GPM) so that should be plenty of flow...

I dont know what to think right now. I had thought that maybe my block was too restrictive until that flow estimator spat out 2GPM

The problem is definitely not the pump, don't worry about that.
