@dlee7283-

I always buy insurance when I ship. I'm so scared that will happen to me. xD
Yea XFX is not so good anymore IMO. This happened to me with HIS. Only reason I got HIS was because all the other brands were out of stock. This was when they first came out. Next time its ASUS or MSI for me.

I have a HIS 5850 which is for sale btw that was absolutely fantastic.... I knew nothing about them before but judging from my one card they are pretty swell.

This is not just an XFX problem, I inquired with Sapph and XFX about an rma for a rattling fan.
I asked if I would be guaranteed a ref card in return, both said no.
I also asked if they could send just the fan, both said no.

I would keep on them for as long as you have patience, sooner or later they might get some back in stock.
Not likely though as the ref design is not likely in production by AMD anymore, but a refurb/recert might pop up.

1. Write up a complaint at BBB's website.
2. Wait for a response.
3. If no response, sue them in small claims court.
4. Win $50, and make them pay your court fees.
5. Have your local paper write up an embarrassing article about them.

That's all I can think of to do. Honestly, though, it's not equal to your previous card if it doesn't come with all the same parts. I'd fight it as much as possible. :\\

I have seen too many people mess up stuff from overclocking. Overclocking to me is worth it if you are bringing new life into old hardware or you have stuff you don't care messes up.It annoys me when people want to get these mass overclocks out of new hardware like SB. Nothing like messing up new hardware to ruin your day.

In my 2 1/2 years of being here and seeing people stuff mess up stuff on a daily basis because of it it causes you change your opinion because it might be 100 percent stable now, but that doesn't mean it won't stop working out of the blue someday because of what you thought was a "safe/stable" overclock. I have also learned you mess up stuff all in the name of e-peen that no one really cares about when it comes down to it. That unless you are doing competitive type overclocking for money, etc.

So basically I come here now for the trading/online deals and to help noobs.

So yeah I am not anti-overclock, I just think it should be used in moderation and responsibly.

There are times when you NEED the extra performance (i.e., running a Minecraft server), but for the most part, I agree with you. I'm a bit tired of messing around with overclocks - at this point, when I get on my computer, I just want something that works. Hence the mild overclock on my Q6600... just not worth it to try and eek out an extra 10-20%.

I agree there are times when a overclock is needed.

I also think the Core 2 Duo is what started the madness (Though some could argue the Thunderbird platform from AMD is a rightful candidate). I have to admit the prospect of overclocking something from 1.86 to 3GHZ was really appealing back in the day since you were basically getting triple the performance compared to a Pentium 4 at the time. Same with the Q6600 which is legendary. Suffering through the Pentium 4 and getting something as nice as Conroe brought me alot of fun.

But on the other hand, its just like the SB processors with no unlocked multi, they are considered garbage here(SB 2500) when in actuality I would rather have one of those at stock over a massively overclocked C2Q Q9550 or Phenom 960. The architecture is what I am interested in now more than anything, maybe I have evolved or maybe devolved, who knows

Sucks to hear that man. My reference 5870 is off for RMA right now to Diamond. I talked with them on the phone before I mailed it and they seemed good. I just got a notification from my USPS account that it arrived yesterday and the Diamond support guy told me RMA is a 5-7 day turn around....we'll see what happens.

BTW, I also have a reference only WC solution....but luckily Diamond never made a non-reference 5870....only a 1GB standard model and 2GB eyefinity model. So, i'm not too worried about receiving a non-reference card.
