Storage Setup (includes F3 RAID 0 results!)

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
Just finished my upgrade, and I gotta say: I couldn't be happier with my storage setup:

1: 60GB Vertex 2 :: OS + Apps
2: 2x1TB F3 in RAID 0 :: Games, Movies, TV Shows, Music, etc
3: 1x2TB F4 :: Backup of #2

I've got speed and security, even if storage costs account for about 1/4 or 1/5 of the total value of my rig.

RAID 0 (no short-stroking since it's all just large data):

You have short stroke checked on while using the Pro Version. That's why your access times don't drop, while mine do because that's the head reaching the inner portions of the disk that have slower access times.

Our avg. transfer rates don't differ by a lot, and it's probably also because of your simulated short stroke while benchmarking.

So yeah, I think my numbers aren't too worrisome

Thanks though!

His is not short stroked your test seems to be. That would provide a difference since it is only reading the outside of the disc then.

No your results are just about the same ones as I showed you of mine a few days ago.

Yeah, I recognize that...note I said ~simulated~ short stroking (his partition size is still 2TB, it's just a short stroked test)

Here's mine, tested with short-stroking and same settings just to verify. There's a access drop, but I think that was just someone starting a video stream:

Highest recommendation, but make sure you have some means of backup. I'm a redundancy freak, so I made sure to have a 1:1 backup solution available for doing any funky RAID 0 business.
