AVX is NUTS!!!

Ok, so I have sandy bridge and now I have W7 SP1... @ 4.8GHz with HT off, LinX pushes temps to 90+ within seconds

Anybody have a cooling system capable of keeping temps in check? Not that I have anything that uses AVX besides LinX, I'm just curious to see how a custom loop handles this.

I bet your 1.3v is nowhere near stable with AVX lol. My temperatures stay in line, but it usually crashes my system within an hour.

any they say u can go 5.0GHz on AIR... pshaw...


anyway. have you tried remounting the h50? seems a bit high from what ive seen people do with SB. other than that try going full WC?

they can easily do 5.0 on air, although , depending on your batch of cpu and how much voltage increase you need to achieve anything stable for an hour or more in various stress tests is the question. The higher voltages required for the 5.0 ghz will drive up the temps fairly quickly. Just click on the imageshack link in my SIG , basically sums up a bad batch cpu with air cooling and that is what it looks like, quite scary ha ha .

Still wanna revisit testing that same OC with my new H70 but i honestly dont wanna put my chip through it again. After i got the idea of how my chip runs with various voltages i did some benching incase i need some insanely high OCs in the future, but as for now i am enjoying the use of real time bios changes with easy tune 6 that give you a range of overclocks starting with default, 3.6,3.8, and 4.1, very handy .

Yeah, they didn't mention what AVX does to temps in all that Sandy Bridge pre-release worship. They made it sound like you could do 5GHz w/HT On with nothing but a CM 212+ (I'm being very sarcastic by the way - just in case you couldn't tell)! Anyway, the (modded) h50 is working perfectly well. It does a superb job with everything else. It's just the nature of AVX. I'm just waiting for the first wisecrack to claim his NH-D14 handles LinX and AVX perfectly fine . This is definately a job for custom WC only.

To Cory1234, I'm not currently running 1.3v, that's for 4.6GHz. Currently I'm running 4.8GHz @ 1.34v with HT disabled - better for FSX. But yes, your probably right either way as I've heard several other people say AVX and LinX requires more voltage. "Problem" is that at 4.8GHz, I can't even handle temps well enough to even perform stability testing. I quote problem because I don't really care seeing as how nothing I do can possibly stress my computer the way this does. I never really optimized my voltage for my 4.8GHz setting, either though.

i was doing 20 IBT runs getting 70+gflops staying below 1.46v/76c @ 5.0GHz on air

after SP1 .. 1st try instant BSOD. lowered a few things even the multiplier and had to stop IBT as temp flew past 85c in less than 10 seconds...realtemp was flashing 125-130 watts

My Hyper 212+ handles AVX just fine with my 2500K @ 4.4 GHz and 1.3V Just passed 20 cycles of it (using all RAM) without any issues.

Granted, load temps with this new version of LinX are about 10C higher than the old, non-AVX version (~65C vs. 75C max load).
