[PhysOrg] Cell phone use may have effect on brain activity

Quote:
In a preliminary study, researchers found that 50-minute cell phone use was associated with increased brain glucose metabolism (a marker of brain activity) in the region closest to the phone antenna, but the finding is of unknown clinical significance, according to a study in the February 23 issue of JAMA.
As a bodybuilder and fan of nootropics, I've come to understand the severe impacts even small changes in brain chemistry can have.

On one hand, you have science saying things happen in the brain.
On the other, we've had a culture that has grown exponentially more wired in the past several decades, and I'd have thought that if there were any negative consequences, they'd have reared their ugly heads by now.

Makes you wonder what exactly is going on then..
But at least no cancer!

Well I'm sure text messaging is fine as long as the phone is not all up in your face. Otherwise, I agree. I used to talk to girls for hours on the phone and then end up with a bad headache. Now i like to keep conversations no more than 5 minutes long.

What about using a wired earpiece? or a bluetooth headset? I mean the phone is bad next to your head, but wouldn't that be saying the same thing as staying out of the sun to avoid skin cancer?

Wired ear piece sounds good.

I believe the article is referring to wireless signals in general.. but you do have a point.

Conspiracy, in my opinion.

I feel this is all a bit silly though. Unless there is some narrow band that only cellphones use, we're getting date raped by cellphone towers, WiFi, etc. all day long.
