I noticed in your sig you put "Air" as your CPU Cooler. What CPU Cooler are you running? This will determine how much you can push your cpu before it gets too hot. That is step one.

I wouldn't overclock more than 200-400 mhz with stock cooling. Prolonged usage of an overclocked chip would create more heat and over time deteriorate it or completely burn it out.

Your chip should easily hit 4.0-4.2GHz but not till after you upgrade your cooler like others have mentioned. If you need something to keep you busy/studying give this thread a good looking over http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ing-guide.html as it will give you lots of good info on the right way to OC and a good path to follow. You'll need to find your own settings as others settings may work, but not be optimal due to each system having it's own limits and demands.

A little more than that might not even require more voltage if his chip is decent. My 1055T can do 3.4 GHz on stock volts.

im assuming to hit those ghz im looking at water cooling?, also i noticed my 1090T never seems to boost to 3.6ghz is this normal? most i have seen it do is 3.2ghz and thats standard speed.

Not at all. I reached a 4013MHz cpu with a Scythe Mugen II air cooler with push/pull fans (both GT AP-15's), but a better air cool solution would be a Noctua.

By boost are you meaning using a utility over clock method?

also to just add are you using stock TIM? Gelid Solutions GC-Extreme Thermal Compound is $13.99 and its amazing. read the reviews off newegg. peopleare saying a 10c to 20c dif over AS-5 and 30c over a crappy stock one. Pair that with a nice cooler and your good to go!

Budget Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212+
its absolutly amazing for the price and can put up to 4 fans on it.

Water Cooling - Crosair H50 for $75. Cant beat it for the price.
