Can't say i expected one. It's just a cumulative update basically. One that Windows Update will try and download to replace the existing updated files. I wish they'd make WU a little bit more intelligent. Not everyone has bandwidth to throw away for no reason.

Windows has a panic attack if it doesn't feel like it's in full control of your PC. I can't imagine how it would react to a major kernel upgrade. It might commit suicide and take out some hardware in the process.
As for Vista vs Win 7: I didn't mind Vista. I wouldn't want to go back to it but only because there are a few niceties in Win 7 that I prefer over Vista. Both of them need an SSD to be really usable after a month, so as far as performance is concerned I don't think they're much different.
