ANNOYING: Windows 7 "Welcome"

Thread Starter
My computer was operating perfectly fine but now when I boot up and enter my password it gets stuck for about THIRTY (30) FULL SECONDS at the "Welcome" menu until it finally opens up to my desktop and operates fine.

What is wrong with this?

maybe you got too much programs running on start up...

go on search and type "msconfig" then on start up tab chose only the essentials prog that you want on start up.

One question, you didn't happen to change your desktop background to a solid color did you? If you did, try change it back to a wallpaper and see if you are good.

what would a solid color instead of a wallpaper have anything to do with that? wouldn't not having a wallpaper be faster?

No, I ran into this issue before right after installing an SSD and I couldn't believe how simple the fix was and that I didn't realize that's what caused it. It doesn't affect everyone though, just kind of random but worth mentioning in this case.

I just changed back to Windows 7 theme and it did not solve the problem.

I have absolutely 0 startup items. I reformatted the computer today and it was running fine all day until now when I try to login.

Am I really going to have to reformat again?

Win+R - msconfig - Startup - Disable All
See if that fixes it.

I have nothing starting up with my computer. Absolutely nothing.

One thing I've noticed recently that I never saw before was that once I actually login, it takes a second for my sound icon to appear and then the network icon appears after that without a network found for about 5-10 seconds. That NEVER happened before. It never even happened when my login was instantaneous.

My computer is BLAZING fast so there's no way somethings bogging it down.

What the hell is going on here...?
