and when you do get it working it will make the games incredibly glitchy because no computer in the world has got the ps2 emotion chip built in so your best bet would be to just buy a ps2 and an old tv
Just curious, but isn't FF8 a PSX exclusive? In which case he would need to use PCSX.

Also, whether or not an emulator works or not depends highly on the game, and PC. I've played Kingdom Hearts front to back with no problems, not even FPS. But, I played some games that would barely launch before something messed up.

And lets just keep this on the legal side of emulating. Yes, it can be legal, if you copy your own bios and just run your own games through either making an ISO from them or just running them in the CD drive.

EDIT: Not PSX exclusive, by the looks of it, but not for the PS2 either. I believe PCSX2 does not have backwards compatibility, though.

i dont know lol im not a FF fan its not the sort of game that i like but i think i played FF8 on a ps2 demo or it could of been FF9 or one of the other ones lol i really dont remember but if it is a ps1 exclusive then you would need pcsx not pcsx2

EDIT: on wikipedia it says that FF8 is out on the PS store on the ps3 and psp it could just be played on ps3 or psp on a SD tv for best quality i know what ps1 games look like on a 1080p tv because i got abes oddesy on my ps3 and its all blocky and pixely

some wrong info here...
ps2's graphic card is 128 bit not the cpu.....
psx2 only uses 3 threads at most, that too third thread is just utilized for the gui...the other 2 threads do the computing.....
and pcsx2 nowhere stresses an i7....beleive me i have played quite a few games on my i7 using pcsx2 emulator.....
now ontopic....
first of all ff8 is ps2 and ps1 exclusive(i think)..
secondly if u want better clarity for ur game then there is a way..
just go to graphics plugin selection menu-->Then select a gsdx sse2,sse4 or ssse3 plugin-->then within that plugins option u will find a setting named internal d3d resolution(its the ps2 engines resolution and mind u will make ur gfx card cry if u go too far) in that setting just type what res u want the game engine to run at...and u will be surprised with the difference in the look of the game,
it will become more sharper, clear and better looking...........
pm me if u get confused .....

just one doubt which version of the ff8 do u own...ps1 or ps2.....??

this isnt for me i was just giving advice on it and wikipedia says that its on pc as well so if it is then you can just plug a pc into a 1080p tv (like i have) and can run any game in 1080p as long as the pc can handle it
