Going from Palit 460 Sonic Platinum to 6970 worth it?

Thread Starter
I'm considering upgrading my gpu to a 6970 as some of the more recent games are really pushing the limits of my 460 (I game at 1920x1200) but I haven't been keeping up with the latest graphics card news.

So do you guys think it's worth the upgrade? Or maybe I should upgrade some other part of my rig first. I'm interested to hear your response and any help would be much appreciated

I personally think that it would be a decent increase but would you want to spend that kind of cash on that?

EDIT:

Side note you would be gaining a fair bit of core clock and doubling your ram on your graphics card.

Keep in mind the 6970 is a bit power hungry.

Well if I sell the 460 the difference shouldn't be too much and I have a Antec 850w PSU so power shouldn't be a problem.

I just made almost the exact same move (well, I bought a 6950 with the intention of unlocking shaders). Mine was motivated by curiosity more than need....

Are you happy with your upgrade?
I think that since you enjoy running at that res you would be very happy with the upgrade because of the increase in core clock and extra gb of dedicated ram.

Additionally its also a bonus that you are picking an ATI card because from a gaming perspective its awesome due to the fact that you can use Steam to update your drivers regularly.
