I have one question, what temperature is damaging for a CPU to operate at?

Other than the obvious 70C

Is something like 50 or 55 fine?

What are the ranges :S

When you stated "operate" I took that as normal day to day use.

Thats an open ended question, many opinions there.
I am unable to give you an accurate temp for damage , other than intel spec.
I dont recall any cpu failures with less than 1.35v +/-., with temps in check, could be some out there..
Heat damages just like excessive volts do.

When an electronic circuit is heated , resistance of said circuit increases, requiring more voltage.
*Unless circuit has negative temp coefficent

You can damage it a little running cores 55c 24/7
You can damage it a lot running 70c 24/7.

It is hard to tell the "damage" either it fried or it now requires more voltage @ same freq.=.the consequence.
Common sense would prevail, less heat is better.

Your gpu has a warming effect on all hardware near it.
If gpu fan speed is stock @25% and it has rear exaust,in theory 75% of heat remains.
That radiated heat is sucked in by cpu fan to further reduce cooling cpu cores.
The interior case temp is the base temp cpu gets to cool itself, lower the better.
I run gpu fan around 90% sli, less with single.

Is something like 50 or 55 fine?.

50~55c gaming coretemp is fine, although 40~ 45c is normal gaming coretemp on my i7.
Improve ambient, airflow, TIM app (heatsink paste)., voltage applied & that INTEL HEATSINK
Improve any of the above and temps will be lower...the first being that intel sink!

I think you are asking is it ok as you are setup @ stock...yes .
Although "stock" or "auto" usually overvolts so john q customer wont have boot issues when new.
This stock / auto vcore amount is usually enough to go much higher clocks cpu.
Dont forget the NB/SB temps, they are important for MB longevity also.
I removed NB/SB heatsinks and re-applied TIM to them when MB new.
In summer they run approx. NB50c/SB40c max respectively gaming.
I have (2) gpu's less than 1/8" apart sitting direct over SB.
System (cpu, NB,SB etc) ran a lot cooler with one gpu.

What are the ranges
intel specs> Tcase 67.9c, so technically anything below that , your cpu will last longer.
i7 930 throttles to protect itself @ approx. 100c.

Intel specs, Tcase, TJmax, etc is tech gobblygoo , confusing & complex.
All chips are different as to need for vcore and longevity @ a particular voltage & temp.

M1 Abrams, my attempt may be in a week or so.

Currently no time, so yeah bookmark this page or w/e if wanted to continue helping if and when I have problems

Heres examples pics of what things you need running during test.

LinX Load

LinX Idle

Prime95 Blend load

Prime95 Blend Idle

ran these today, LinX got less vBoost from LLC than Prime blend@ load.
LinX 1.184v load
Prime 1.192v load
BIOS CPU Volts set to 1.18750v .both LinX & Prime blend.

My rig is stable & has been for years , same BIOS settings @ 4GHz
I ran LinX for 10 runs, prime blend for approx. 40 mins, got board & stopped it.

CPU-z reads 1.184vcore idle.

+++++++

Take screenie load & idle prime95 blend.
If you run LinX , in settings verify # of threads & set to 64bit & set & 25k problem size.

run prime just to see what vcore & temps auto gets you @ load @ stock freq.

1) Ai oc tunre to manual
2) [disable] BIOS items mentioned earlier
3) Set voltages
4) enable LLC
5) cpu ratio 20
6) change BCLK to 159
7) ram to 1594
8) UCLK & QPI Link confirm on 3187 / 5738
test

No doubt you may get locked / BSOD etc. trying any OC.
Thats the fun of it!

I edited some of my replies to you here, just touching things up.

I'll check back in about a week.

Maybe someone else can chime in and help you too

Still haven't had any time to attempt an OC.

I should have some time in about a week =.=
Or MAYBE tomorrow.
