Not open for debate, I'm just saying:

I will never understand why this forum hates consoles so much.

Because it's a site aimed for PC users?

lol

But I am sure if we showed up on TeamXbox forums or a PS forum we would be banned so fast.

Last but not least, it's like you chose the worst possible screenshot out of EG's galleries for the consoles to attempt to compare. Those two are so dark you can't even make out Miranda's hair yet alone see anything but her head.

Since you gave nothing to really to compare, look at Miranda's white suit. Well, because of your choice of screenshots the TINY part of it you can see on the PS3 and 360. The 360 one is exactly the same as the PC one. The PS3 version has a lower resolution one or at least one with less clarity for whatever reason. Also Miranda's neck brace/clip thing is the same throughout the screenshots. So are her lips and eyebrows. They're exactly the same in quality.
You can't compare facial and or body models because the screenshots don't show enough, are in noise, and the lighting is so drastically different.

In that screenshot, notice the horrible pixel mess on the asari's clothes. That is a result of copy pasta Xbox 360 textures. All of the textures in the PC's file archives are in the resolution of the 360 - 720p or at least consistent in similar sizes.
ok. i found a DF comapro. i guess you're right about the textures, though again it still looks better on PC (AF 16x, much higher FPS & resolution) & this is still the exception to the rule.

In terms of the overall visual make-up, Mass Effect 2 is a game that is clearly designed with console as the target platform, although of course you can run the PC version at stupendously higher resolutions, and a far more stable frame-rate comes almost as standard even with a budget GPU like the NVIDIA GTS250, or the venerable 8800GT.

This presents both advantages and disadvantages to PC owners. Mostly it's good stuff: with PC hardware having progressed so much in the last few years, it means that anyone with a modern computer and a modest graphics card should be able to get console-beating performance.

On the minus side, those with bleeding-edge systems get more frames and more pixels than those playing on Xbox 360, but little else: those textures were designed for 720p. Sometimes they scale up beautifully, in other cases they don't.

The extra performance offered by PC hardware certainly helps though. The frame-rate advantage is quite significant and not just in terms of eliminating the performance drops we see in the Xbox 360 version. It doesn't require a monster system to run Mass Effect 2 at 60 frames per second, and the overall consistency this gives to BioWare's stunning animation really can't be underestimated. Those cut-scenes look beautiful on both systems, but they move so much more smoothly and realistically on PC thanks to that additional temporal resolution.

Do you know if the warrenty is still intact? You could try giving Sony a ring either way to see what they say.
Then again you said you bought another PS3 already so might not be worth bothering. Sorry man that sucks
Sony may fix it for $150, you pay shipping both ways if I remember, they will give a 90 day warranty and it will take 4-6 weeks.

I was actually planning on picking up a PS3 to put in my bedroom. My girlfriend likes to take my PS3 into our bedroom as a media player/bluray player. So when exclusive games come out, I take it back, I don't get any for a few days, life goes on right? So when I told her the PS3 died this morning, she was PISSED!!! OMG, 7am and I'm in bed getting chewed at. She was like "What were you messing with now, always #$%#$ with stuff." So on her break today from work, she went to Best Buy (the Woman doesn't listen) and got the LG-BD570 bluray player.

So now I'm not sure what I want to do with it. It's IMO, the best of the PS3 fat version and probably all PS3. It''s the 60GB that does PS2 hardware emulation, 4 USB ports, and wifi b/g. Part of me says I should fix it, since it's like a classic. Time will tell I guess.

Bingo. You've earned yourself a reputation. An honorable one at that: never a bad thing

I still don't believe the resolution changes much though without the texture resolutions to support it. Sure - you can see more and everything gets resized but if the textures don't support it then it looks more like crap than anything else in my opinion.

The AA and AF is the only really big thing that I will say that ME2, well consoles in general, loose out on. FPS rates have never bothered me and many others and we enjoy our 30FPS just fine. 60FPS is a big deal for others for some reason, they make it sound like a game breaker but when I play at 60FPS I don't believe it changes the experience of a game like it does when you have better texture resolutions for example. Might just be a personal thing, but it's when they dip down to 25 or lower when it really begins to become a problem.
The only exception is fighting and racing games where FPS is everything.

As for AA and AF though, I will say one thing in defense for consoles. MLAA changes everything. While it may have its draw backs, Killzone 3 looks like it has 16xAA on.

People, #1 when you are running around you don't notice the details like you do in screenshots.

#3 A visually good console game is not "shudder".. A PS2 game in 2005 compared to the pc's at the time was shudder, but a 2011 ps3 game is not to that point. Graphics are reaching a pinacle.
Maybe thats because you play PC games on a 58" using a 9600GT? A PC game will look MUCH better than its counterparts due to using native resolution, actually using 1920x1080 as appose to 1280x720 upscaled (and for some console games thats pushing it) better textures, adjustable AA/AF and a whole host of other features.

A bigger monitor doesn't necessarily make anything look worse, in fact it can look better depending on the LCD/Plasma in play. *see above*

As far as graphics reaching a "pinacle"? Maybe for now because the common denominators are 5 year old graphics cards but if gaming moved at the speed of PCs we would have games that looked near lifelike by now and picturesque within a couple years. Come back and try again.

I dont hate consoles. I've bought almost every one that's ever come out at some point. I just get bored of them when they inevitably show their age & limitations.

resolution has nothing to do w/ textures. textures are just skins that go over the models. the models rendered at higher resolution look sharper. if its one thing that drives me crazy about console games it's the blurring incurred by the upscaling & staircase effect of aliasing due to sub-hd renders. makes me feel like im playing a game wearing goggles w/ vasoline on them & everything shimmers. factor in the worse frame rates, screen tearing, extra lag incurred by the scaling & inevitable TV input lag and it just feels noticeably less visceral to me. Granted I'm using a TV as a gaming monitor in a dual display setup w/ an old 1905FP as the launchpad, but I'm hoping to change that w/ a Acer GN245HQ when it goes on sale in the U.S.
