Correct. There's a difference between game resolution and texture resolution. You can have high-res textures with a low-res game and visa versa.

Look at that pixelated mess on the Asari's clothes. Absolutely pathetic.
It's not like it's because she is just some other NPC. The same effect can be found on all of the characters one place or another. Shephard's armor sometimes comes up his next, and whatever texture there is just stupidly bad. It's particularly noticeable when Shephard is just wearing his under shirt when you're wandering the ship.
It's those blemishes that really pop when you have such a good looking game but it just is bound by the laziness of the developers. I particularly hated the cutscenes in ME2. They are so compressed and pixelated. Sure, they're "720p" but they may as well be Youtube 340p or w/e it is.

Dead Space 2 is another example of how rendering resolution does little to nothing. The game looks pixel for pixel the same as console with the exception of AA effecting the shadows. Increasing the resolution makes the game look no different on my PC at 1080p then it does on my PS3's version of the game at 720p.
Maybe it's a different story when you go to the 2k resolutions, I dont know but unless the textures or effects are there to support it - 720p to 1080p has never made a significant difference for me.
no i dont think you're getting it. geometric resolution and texture resolution are 2 different things. you can have high geometric resolution with low texture resolution and vice versa. If you make a circle with 8 lines it's an octagon, if you make it w/ 1,000 lines it's a megagon. neither one is a perfect circle but the megagon looks a lot closer to a circle than the octagon does. If you put the same texture on them, the megagon will still look closer to a circle even if the texture looks the same. The simple fact that it's pushing more pixels, and it can push exactly the same number of pixels that it displays, as opposed to having to scale it which introduces blur & magnifies the aliasing (which is present because it is rendered at a lower resolution) makes it look sharper on the PC.

yes, some textures in the one specific game you're focusing on (ME2) aren't as high res as they could be on PC for some odd reason, but the game does look better overall on the PC there's no disputing that.

As for tons of other PC games, like the Black Ops example I gave you, it's like night & day. Not only are there visual effects not present in the console version, but the PC version is clearly much smoother, sharper & more detailed.

lmaof i had an xbox 360 and it was pretty good but it is no pc. there is a big ******* difference in the graphic quality. I have been a pc gamer since 1997 and i can tell easily the difference. the graphics are outdated on both consoles, they cant handle even 720p. the old days were good with the games being developed on pc first then ported to console. they just have so much potential

The game only runs at 720p too... If it were to max out the playstation's graphics, then it would at least be running at a full 1080p...

To be fair many of you are being quite foolish. I love my pc, I can run any game I want to with all the bells and whistles at 1080 without a problem. However I also know very well that I've put a ton of time money into my system. Granted, that's fun part.

I also know that the PS3 is 4 year old hardware and aside from my original purchase I've put no money into it. Take a PC from 4 years ago built with similar resources and I'm sure you would never see it perform as well right now.

The fact that developers can make such nice looking games without requiring a power house of a pc should be applauded.

That's how it is with all consoles though, because it's one configuration of components they are able to optimize games to that exact system, whereas with pc games they need to be compatible with a massive amount of different system configurations. On top of that the fact that they only need to play games and there are little to no background processes to slow system performance.

However, details are turned down, and games often go at 720p rather than 1080p, and often lack AA.

Sure it is decent, but if you load the same game up in on a PC (assuming that it were to be ported to the PC), the graphics would run so much better, and you know it too, which is why consoles are destroying the progression of gaming graphics (although not so much games themselves).
