AMD build with which graphics card.... - Page 2

Hm, thanks for the reply. Thats good tho, I like what I'm hearing. I might actually go for that Sapphire HD6870, and CF in three months or so. The only thing that bothers me about my Mobo with the CF is that I only have one slot open between the two PCI-e X16 lanes. Will that impact the cooling of the cards, or not really?

I am looking to maybe take my CPU up to 3.8 or 4.0, depending on how the temperatures are and if it's stable with the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ on those speeds. A lot of reviews I read they rant on about the OC performance of the 965 BE not gaining more than 400MHz with air cooling, but I have good airflow in my case as well so that will also help I guess.

Also, I have 2x 4GB DDR3-1600 modules, so that I'm hoping will give me more FPS as well.

Haha, thanks for your input RabbitGT and Phoenixlight. Much appreciated.

The temperatures of the two cards probably will be higher if there isn't a space between them but they'll still be ok. I've never seen mine go higher than 77*C and for a poorly cooled case like mine that still pretty good (the max is 105*C~).

Actually OP, you could run 6870 CFX fine with your PSU. My OCZ is actually a 550 unit and I get by fine at 4.0GHz on my i7 and 950/1100 on my 6870s 24/7. I don't know where you guys get these bogus power requirements, have you ever heard of a killawatt? You should probably get one. If your PSU is the one I'm thinking of its 12v rail is 624watts which is more than enough to run a Phenom II and some 6870s.

6870 consumes 185w under full load which means 370w for CF ...doesnt sound right against 6850 140w which looses only couple FPS in performance

Name a real life situation where you will be using all the cards power, especially in CFX. Even power supply calculators which overestimate by 50 to 100 watts say that system only needs 536 watts at 90% load.

Edit: Go check out http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/301
415 watt full system power running Crysis. And only 481 watts running furmark.

I would take a look at that power supply if I were you

6850 is a good choice, but I say get the 6870 or higher, just for the greater performance in the future, and possible CFing. The 560 isn't a bad choice, either.

The reason I'd go for CF is because I am running an AMD, and AMD obviously runs better with AMD cards.. The reason I bought this PSU is to CF HD5770's, but I'd rather go for a bit more expensive HD6000-series cards. Thanks for all your input everyone. Very much appreciated. I'm going for two HD6870's from Sapphire.

Haha, @Nick0matic
Already bought it though.. Not gonna cry over spilt milk.. But thanks for the link, was interesting to read. I might even just buy a new one when I get the GFX cards anyway, cuz I'm unsure about the 650Watt running CF and 4 HDD's, plus overclocking mehehe.
