Cannot install SP1... missing components? [Solved]

Found the solution! It's caused by driver cleaners being rubbish and leaving entries in the registry which SP1 doesn't apparently like. I did an upgrade/recovery install of Windows and SP1 installed fine.

I cannot seem to install Windows 7 SP1. Windows Update just causes an error despite the fact other updates download and install fine. I then downloaded the install file from MS, but when I run it, I get:

Service pack installation cannot continue: One or more system compinents that the service pack requires are missing. For more information, click the link below:

The link is to Microsoft and simply tells me to re-install Windows. Halp?

but no on a serious note, looks like your gonna have to wait until some more people get this error, then ms will find a way to fix it then you should be clear to install... maybe redface.gif

Just wondering, would a repair/upgrade install remove my installed applications from C drive? That's what i've been recommended to do, but I can't find out if it wipes the C drive.

Same error here! Whywindows.png

Damn gypsies. I used the same disc that I magically got on my moms laptop and her SP1 is trucking along...
