In my experience, and I have had around 22+ computers over the last 20 years. Usually if something dies, it doesn't take other parts with it (there's the rare exception of course). Even ram slots frying, didn't seem to effect ram.

If there's power on the mobo it could just be that something on the mobo has died which is causing it not to even get to memory read pre-bios stage. That was my next guess. It's either that or the CPU is dead, but I doubt it will be both.

BTW just a thought on my last post, I have had a few ram slots fry over the years. Well they stop working anyway. But when that happens i usually see the bios and theres no ram and simply move ram to other slots and it works.

But the fact you getting an error about the monitor not having cable connection makes me wonder...
I seriously would have thought it would have been gfx related, or monitor related.

Yeah i tried all the RAM slots - using 2 sticks in 1 and 3, then in 2 and 4 and then 1 stick in each and still nothing. so i am really stuck as to figuring it out. it could all be down to the graphics card but as i got the same thing about no HDMI cable when i removed the graphics card and tried the inbuilt graphics card makes me think that it is down to the CPU, Motherboard or the RAM or possible more then one of them.

About the CPU, without having access to another computer what ways could i determine if it is a CPU dying? would it like give tell tell physical signs that its that, i cant seem to find anything else. i have looked at all the parts, minus the CPU which i will be doing tonight

Yeah when a cpu dies it's usually visibly noticeable. Like others have suggested it's probable something on the mobo died which may/may not be visibly noticeable.

Right here is everything i was able to do last night :

i Removed all the PCI-Cards and tried to use the HDMI connection and the white socket connection (cant remember what its called) on the Motherboard neither of these worked so until i can test the GTX 470 properly i am going to consider that it is not that which is at fault.

While the graphics card was out i checked the back of it for burns, leaks and such and it all seemed clear minus a very slight amount of dust. I am not sure how to take the casing of the card off so i havent been able to check inside it yet.

I then removed the CPU Heatsink, looked on the underneath of the CPU and that looked fine and the side that goes onto the heatsink looked okay as well. The heatsink itself was clean of any dust as well as i had cleaned it out a few days after i moved BUT i havent been able to replacement my thermal paste as i cant find mine so will be buying some more and replacing it though i dont think that it is down to overheating CPU.

I also tried to run the computer as suggested without the Heatsink fan connected, i ran it for a about 1-2minutes and the Heatsink didnt get hot or warm so not sure what that could mean, should i try it for more then 1-2minutes? Could the heatsink not getting hot indicate a possible CPU problem or what that be down to a Motherboard problem not giving the CPU any power?

I then removed All PCI-Cards, Removed RAM, removed CPU and Heatsink and all cables and checked the Motherboard no signs of burns or leaks on top or bottom of the motherboard and then put everything back together and it was still not working, and still am no closer to figuring out what died, how it died and why it died.

Would i get error beeps if the computer doesnt post? Could these beeps be heard through a pair of headphones? as i tried my usb speakers but they didnt make any sound, not sure if they require the computer to be near/at the login screen for them to get power.

How does the error beeps work? is there any problems with a computer that wouldnt give error beeps? and how would these beeps work, would they be able to work through headphones or anything? as i dont seem to get any beeps that i can hear when using the usb speakers or when using my headphones

Though unlikely, very unlikely could the hard drives being plugged into different sata sockets then they were before have anything to do with the computers problems? like it cant find the OS or something? wish i had done something to make sure i knew which plugs i had them in to begin with now.

Well thats everything i have tried last night and still nothing, But what i think so far is that the GPU is safe as the rpoblem persists even without the gpu being plugged in, the RAM i had COULD be safe and its a problem with the Motherboard or CPU

As i have no improvement on what is happening to my system i have been looking at some motherboards and CPUS i can get, i was thinking about getting the crosshair IV and trying it with my CPU and seeing if that works, would have good options to upgrade to an x6 cpu later down the road.

I cant think of what else it could be other then the Motherboard that has died could even get a Crosshair IV and an 1090T Black Edition for like £270, what do you guys think? good deal?

of course i wouldnt be able to buy it just yet so prices could come down and my birthday is soon as well so could get them for a birthday present, would going for them? its looking more likely that i wont be able to RMA them as i have to go up to reading for like 2 weeks soon as well so that would give me even less time with everything else i have to do, my warrenty runs out on the 14th March

If your CPU heatsink is cold (fan unplugged), your mobo(Voltage Regulators-MOSFETs) might be dead. I dont think that your CPU has any problems.
Crosshair IV & 1090 is the best combo(AMD) at the moment

Thanks for the info, should i redo the test but leave the fan unplugged for a bit longer? or is 1-2minutes enough to tell that it is likely that which has messed up?

Thanks for the info about the Crosshair and 1090, can the Crosshair do SLI with the SLI hack? as i would like the option even if i might not use it to go SLI in the future

1-2 minutes should be enough, but try it a little bit longer(5 min). check the MOSFETs heatsink too
Dont know how good is the SLI hack. If the $$$ is not an issue, go for Crosshair Extreme. Thats work for sure

Okay thanks, i will give a 5min run a go just to make sure. the $$$ isnt an issue but the £££ could be depending on performance, i might just go for a near complete upgrade and get a new case along with it as well
