Overclock i7 2600k, voltage question

Hi

What is the best voltage setting when overclocking the 2600k to about 4.4 ghz?

Motherboard: Asus P8P67 pro
Ram: 2 x 4GB Corsair Vengeance PC3-12800 1600MHZ CL9 1.5v

Right now I have it set to 4.2ghz (42 multi), with ram timings and voltage set to stock values, and the CPU voltage set to Offset 0.020. Everything else set to default/auto.

Cpu-z readings:
Full load (Prime95 blend): about 1.264v
Idle: about 1.000v
Bios says: 1.200v

Without any extended testing, everything seems to be stable

But is it best I raise the cpu voltage, especially when going for 4.4ghz?
And, is it better to set a manual voltage value, instead of Offset? (I use the computer at idle a lot too, and don't need 24/7 overclock)

the answer to your question is "the minimum voltage required to run stable." Every chip is different and requires different voltage to obtain certain speeds.

Just OC it slowly and test to see if it is stable. If your chip will run stable at 4.4 at 1.32V, why run it at 1.4? No point, except to reduce the life of your chip.

4.4Ghz can probably be reached between 1.2 - 1.3v

I can run 4.6 @ 1.31/1.32 on mine and I knew these 2600ks have pretty big voltage gaps as you start going over 4.5/4.6Ghz.

I would start at like 1.25 and run prime blended for 30-60 mins, if it passes, drop it down a notch and repeat, when you find that instability go back up one and see if it will pass blended and small fft for 2 hours + each.

Ok

But can I just use the Offset voltage setting?

Update windows to SP1 and run IBT (or LinX) with HT OFF.
AVX will put the heaviest load on the CPU, and you'll probably need a couple more notches of VCORE than running PRIME.
