It is as simple as that, and quite understandable. I'm not sure what part of that people continue to miss.
No, I am under the impression (And yet to see any other proof) that people weren't really trying to hack the PS3 for something other than RSX access until OtherOS was removed, yeah, a few were but it wasn't a busy scene.

MGS, I didn't like. Though, these opinions do not matter because the argument is the number of titles. Judging by the fact you can't name any other large game, I'm certain it is safe to assume you disregard everything Playstation outside the occasional thread you see, which implies you don't give anything the games offer a chance. So really, your opinions of these games are tainted. I don't want to say you're a fanboy, but there is something there distorting your views.
Anyway, other major exclusives off the top of my head for PS3:
Infamous 1 & 2.
Killzone 2, 3
Uncharted 1, 2, 3
Gran Tourismo series
LBP 1, 2
Heavy Rain
Socom series
MotorStorm series
God of War series
Demon Souls
Heavenly Sword
MLB series
Resistance series
Modnation Racing
Ratchet and Clank
Yakuza series
Warhawk
Twisted Metal
MAG
There are more, but this list is growing ridiculously large. So, lacking titles? I... think not.
Infamous: I personally found it to be a mediocre version of Prototype.
Killzone: Horrid game, I've played all 3 as well, I can think of many shooters that are far better, Halo included. (And I hate Halo with a passion)
Uncharted: Over-rated, boring, Nathan Drake is the most annoying character in video game history as well.
GT: Like I said, Forza 3 is funner in my opinion.
LBP: One of the few games I enjoyed on PS3.
Heavy Rain: Has the pacing of groundwater, good story but that's it, feels more like it should be a a movie rather than a game to be honest.
Socom: See Killzone, although this is actually somewhat fun.
Motorstorm: Another one of the few games I like on PS3.
God of War: See above.
Demons Souls: Way too frustrating to be a good game, games are meant to be fun.
Heavenly Sword: Poorly done God of War ripoff
MLB: Baseball? Seriously? 1) That isn't even sold where I live and 2) Practically every sports game I've played has been extremely boring and has less innovation than CoD.
Resistance: It's alright, I guess.
Modnation: Never seen it over here, but it looks alright.
Rachet and Clank: I've always thought this was over-rated, even when I had it on my PS2.
Yazuka: Never seen it over here, looks alright but very god of war like.
Twisted Metal: Looks alright, not really my style though.
MAG: Horrible game that tries to live purely off the 256 players thing, feels like a worse version of BF2, plus, as any shooter is, its hampered by PS3 controls and lack of a mouse.

Whenever a fake PS3 hack came out (there were dozens), the modding communities would light up like a fuel dosed fire. To sit here and say goes to show that you have no knowledge on the subject.
You haven't read up.
No, I want proof of anyone looking for anything but access to the RSX in OtherOS, not proof of any hack.

Halo is over-rated, Uncharted is over-rated...Everyone says its good, but I personally found it to pretty boring, a game doesn't need to be the biggest game in existence to be over-rated.

Maybe because the hackers found the way to crack down the system...? Thus it leads the pirates to use the information to play illegally downloaded games.

Yes, but what all the hackers want to do, is install custom firmware and get Linux etc. running. Most of the hackers are against piracy themselves.

The thing is, no matter how good the hacker's intention were... they still opened the gate for the pirates. So yeah, imo both are to blame.

Halo is over-rated, Uncharted is over-rated...Everyone says its good, but I personally found it to pretty boring, a game doesn't need to be the biggest game in existence to be over-rated.
Your personal opinions of both subjects are irrelevant. Even if there was one person who just learned what programming was spent any amount of time specifically trying to crack something, then that item was attempted to be cracked. It doesn't mean it has to be a good effort, the effort was still there. Not to mention, it doesn't matter what the goal of the crack was. Who ever was involved was still breaking the terms of service, and exploiting security flaws in the OtherOS. That is grounds for removal. Since people love gun analogies, let me use one. You give a cop a gun, they know and agree to the rules of being an officer. If the cop misuses the gun, do you let them keep the gun and just take away the bullets? Or, do you just take away the gun? Well, Sony took away the gun. Now these cops are finding new guns, and now Sony is just kicking them off the force. ;D

As for the games. Once again, your opinions do not matter. You claim the didn't have any games, and I disproved it. Those were all just exclusives I could think of off the top of my head. That list only consisted of SCEA released exclusives, it doesn't count the the massive amount of other exclusives like DLC or exclusives by other major publishers.

You appear to think good games are overrated. You realize PS3 exclusives are some of the most under rated games outside of indie games? Oh course, that is by personal observation. I know multiple PS3 owners who hasn't ever even seen Uncharted, let alone know what Killzone is. I often find people mix up Killzone and Fallout, which just so happens to be one of the most over rated games, next to Halo and Crysis.

Killzone can be tough to enjoy if you are use to the easy shooters, I'll grant you that. I didn't like it at first because it was challenging. I'd hate to be "that guy" who calls you out for biased judgment due to lack of skill, but I might have to. Based on your own comment: "Demons Souls: Way too frustrating to be a good game, games are meant to be fun."
I'm sorry, but you appear to be extremely biased.

All we have to do is find one, just one case where someone uses the hack for any other purpose than just installing a custom firmware or getting linux and then your entire statement is ruined. Wait a second... what is this? http://ps3.ign.com/articles/114/1144456p1.html

Next.

It was quite a busy scene, you clearly didnt read up on or were apart of any PS3 modding sites that were trying everything from hardware to software mods.

I agree that 1st party titles are lacking, Uncharted as a series is horribly over-rated, GT5 is not as fun as Forza 3 (Although updates are fixing that slowly), LBP is one of the only ones that isn't beaten at all, MGS is fun but really much of a game IMO and I can't think of any others.
1st party titles are lacking and you couldn't think of any others. That list proves that there are plenty of 1st party titles that you didnt think of regardless of your opinion.
For the record, I disagree with every single one of your opinions. Even MLB - I HATE sports games but that doesnt mean I shouldnt acknowledge its existence and popularity. Even Halo, which I hate, I at least can see that it's quite popular and have some sort of recognition for it.

I especially cant believe you think Nathan Drake is the most annoying character ever. I think he's easily the best one ever in existence actually in my book, and is backed by the best voice to grace video games as well. I guess that's just how much we differ huh.

EDIT:
I actually agree about Forza being more fun as a game, but that's because GT5 is a much different game and simply isn't my style for racing. It's a very complex and much more realistic game, making it much harder to play than Forza or something like Need for Speed Shift.

Quote:
Noy, I want proof of anyone looking for anthing but access to the RSX in OtherOS, not proof of any hack.
I dont quite understand what you're saying because the first words contradict with the last from my understanding of what you said.
Many communities were digging through OtherOS for some sort of way to tunnel into the XMB somehow. GeoHot just happened to be the one who found the developer access which lead to lv2 commands, and that lead to access to the XMB.

Also, there was the USB developer code hacks as well that lasted for a short while. People still use that now.

Quote:
That's the entire point of that comparison, even if the PS3 had a lot of people trying to crack it...Were they people who can actually crack? Or were they people who made a "Hello World" program in visual basic and think they're kings of programming because it was easy?
So you're saying that just because they didn't find anything doesn't mean that they existed or had experience? Just because no one found anything but the signature keys and the developer USB hack doesn't mean that the people looking for a way in and their trials didn't exist.

Actually, it's funny because GeoHot made a "Hello World" program as well after he made his CFW for the record. So what your point is with that is beyond me. Anyone who could achieve that means that they broke the PS3, because otherwise it would've never run "Hello World" without doing so.

While no, it doesnt need to be the next-big-thing to be over rated: it certainly isn't like everyone talks about Uncharted all over the place and everyone and their mother knows who Nathan Drake is like they do Master Chief.
