You keep using excuse like they're lying about it. What? Do you think some developers wanted to pull out of PC Gaming?? The only reason some have left is that they felt it wasn't worth the cost to them. It damages console sales too because people download the game on PC and don't feel the need to grab it on console.

If the companies that pulled out felt they could make a profit on PC then they'd still be there.

And of course Starcraft 2 is the best selling game of the year. It's Blizzard for goodness sake. Just because they had enough sales to offset the rampant piracy going on doesn't mean piracy isn't a problem O_o

Rushed / crappy games is the result of capitalism. If it'll sell, they'll put it out, even if it's dog****. Whoever can churn out a popular series the fastest wins, no matter what the quality.
So what, do you feel that's your excuse to pirate? (I didn't see a point being made, so I made one) There are plenty of great companies still out there, and if you don't like a game title then don't buy it, or pirate it. Eventually the studio will realize, given enough people, that their games suck and aren't getting any attention. At that point they'll either close or make some better games. Piracy doesn't send the message I hate your games, it just makes you look like a crook.

If you stole an apple from a fruit stand do you think the first thought in their head would be, man that guy must really hate my apples?

+1 - it's all about the hobby....

Besides, I think Sony is looking to hire because they fired the donkeys that started this garbage with GeoHot. They must have wasted a lot of time, effort and cash accomplishing nothing - while piracy continues like a steam roller.

Pirates pirates pirates I'm so tired of hearing about pirates. Easy solution!!! Reduce the cost of media by digital distribution and everyone wins. But no they say it makes pirates. That's like saying 8 track is better for a media because pirates can't steal it. These stupid butthats won't stop until the internet is dead so they can keep their outdated distribution model. Steam has proven that it can work and does.

Wow you are amazing. How many times in how many threads did you confidentially say piracy isn't a problem, people have a legitimate hobby that doesn't involve any piracy.
Hahaha. Wow. You continue to amaze me.

Everyone wouldn't win with digital distribution. There is a large number of people who still doesn't even have basic broadband, there is no way that would work out. If I still lived at home, I'd be all for it, considering I had fiber optic. Where I live now, on a university campus, the internet speed is gross. I download at roughly 40K, that is slower than dial up.

Now THAT is an interesting perspective.
Its also horribly wrong and a wonderful example of rationalizing a behavior that, while not necessarily morally reprehensible, is logically and economically reprehensible.

Piracy may create a few jobs now and then in security, but it removes jobs in development, marketing, and the other 99.999% of a company and the other 99.999% of an industry.

Its like Bankruptcy law. When everyone is going broke there is a booming business for lawyers who specialize in that. But is everyone going broke and giving work to a very select few lawyers good for everyone? No. Not at all.

they have already done that with music. you can buy songs for a dollar at a lot of places and music sales have still been on a decline since the late 90's. some people still won't buy. everyone knows one or more of these people. they listen through the radio or borrow CD's or w/e.

perhaps the charity model for buying music would work?

If I cloned an apple from a fruit stand, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind so much. At the very least, they'd feel "wow, my apples are good enough to reproduce in their entirety."

Software != physical good. What makes software software isn't the medium it's on, or its physical representation.

Trying to apply traditional economical models is ridiculous. Software developers should be happy they've gotten away with what they have.

If people suffer for trying to sell an easily duplicated intangible good, so be it.

I still buy CD's. I actually buy overpriced CD's from FYE. There. I said it.

I'm not going to buy digital music until it's 100% lossless.

Assuming he would pay for good games your example isn't valid. It would be more like "why is everyone stealing my apples but paying for someone elses?" Which, imo, would lead the apple vendor to a very different conclusion (my apples arent worth money). Or at least thats the way I view the way I pirate.
