Comment on my budget build!

Thread Starter
So in a thread about budget builds for Source games (TF2 mainly) I posted this rig but haven't really gotten a response...This build comes from that thread and from a thread i started a week ...

PSU - Antec 450W 45€
CPU - AMD Athlon II X3 445 AM3 80€
RAM - Corsair DDR3 XMS3-1600 4GB C9 49€
Mobo - GigaByte GA-880GM-UD2H 78 €
GPU - Powercolor ATI HD5570 1GB GDDR3 PCI-E 66€
HDD - Samsung 500GB SATA II 38.5 €

Grand Total: 356.5 € = 487$ give or take

What do you guys think? Can i cut back on any part to cheapen it more but still be able to run TF2 well ? I really have a tight budget...

I think it looks good. I would say get a 5770 instead of a 5570. But if you are on a tight budget, that may not work. Do you have a case picked out?

Get a better PSU.
5570 is not a power monster, but you might want to OC or change GPU in the future. There are cheaper and good PSUs of about 600W.
Also you could get Kingston RAM, cheaper I believe, and a good OCer.

As everyone says, the GPU needs a little more investment. Otherwise, nice.

For RAM, in general you want greater frequency and less cas latency. However, I'm sure all of those choices have very close if not identical specs. Go with any of them. If you like one because the color, go ahead and get that one, it doesn't matter that much.

I'm not familiar with any of those PSU manufacturers. IMO, the Antec you chose should be sufficient.

If you're looking for PSUs on a budget, Antec and Thermaltake are good options. Other good options are often expensive i.e. Corsair, Seasonic, etc.

You don't need a better power supply. 450w is just fine. Even up to something like a 5770.

I'd recommend trying to get a 1GB GDDR5 5670 if you can find one, or a 5770 if your budget will stretch to it. I understand if it doesn't, though. I don't know what your local market is like for prices. I'd also suggest considering a quad core, as here the price difference is negligible, and there are a *few* games (more and more each month) that use and want a quad core, so it's good to future-proof.

Ultimately though, it's a good build on a budget. I take it you already have a DVD drive and a case?

If you're desperately looking to cut costs, you could scale down to a dual core, since *most* games can get by quite happily on it, but it'll feel slower when multitasking, and there are certain games (Bad Company 2, GTA 4 etc) that want more cores, so I don't recommend this unless you're really on a tight budget.
