Having issues with my Alienware M11x - Page 2

Well at idle my CPU is around 52-55c, and while playing games it hits 90-98c.

I'm gonna try taking off the bottom and cleaning it out some and see if that helps.

Well cleaning out my laptop lowered the idle temps down to 45c, but the load temps are still the same.

I was wondering if getting something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834999412 might help?

Will help, if you can afford the noise and inconvinience..

Sure that would help, but I would still be concerned with those temps as high as they are. Replacing the TIM I think would be a necessary next step, in conjunction with getting a decent cooler. Have you tried anything to prop the rear end of the laptop up off the table to see if your temps drop much? These M11x's have really small rubber feet so there's not a lot of room for airflow between the laptop and the table.

I'll try that next. I really hope I wont have to replace anything as I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to laptops lol.

Something else I've noticed is, I get the FPS issues even when my CPU isn't hot at all (along with the crackling noises). Sometimes right after starting up Fallout it'll do the crackling noises and my fps will drop, but my CPU will still be about 50-60c at the most.

Have you reinstalled the OS at all? Used a non-Dell nVidia driver? What revision M11x-R1 or M11x-R2?

You can head over to notebookreview.com/alienware to get more help.

I reinstalled the OS a few months back. I'm currently using nVidia's drivers, but I only started using those after I started having the FPS issues hoping that would fix it.

And I have the R1.

Do you use any kind of anti virus software in the background? I know some are known to kill performance in these laptops. Also, try reinstalling Dell's drivers but before that, uninstall your current video drivers via Control Panel -> Uninstall Programs, and then running driver sweeper (check all nVidia display driver/PhysX boxes), reboot to safe mode, run CCleaner and clean out your registry. Be sure to backup all your registries so you can add them back should a windows problem arise. Reboot to windows and install the Dell drivers. Please report back with results. Good luck!
