I'm not too up to date on the latest news about Sandy Bridge and I wanna hear it from you guys: Are they safe to buy now?

A friend is giving me £600 to build him a PC and I just wanna know if I should go Sandy Bridge of stick with Nehalem.

As far as I know you cant buy the SB gear yet. You have to wait till the new P67 boards come out with the updated chip.

Sandy Bridge is the superior architecture. The new boards are set to be shipped within the next couple of weeks (at least from Asus and Gigabyte).

Waiting a short while will be worth it.

Huh... I'll have to confer with my friend.

He was going to buy a laptop with his money but has instead asked me to build him a desktop. I doubt he'll want to wait an extra couple of weeks but we'll see.

Sorry, they don't have the new B3 in stock. Pre-Orders on those from looking at their website. The few boards they do have in stock are the older revision boards.

So choices remain, wait for the SB-B3s to come out which should be a few weeks and is far superior to the Nehalem architecture or go Nehalem now.

Hmm, i'unno. He's not exactly going for the overpowered high-end stuff as he wont actually ever use that kind of power. I think an i5 will suit his needs perfectly.
If he is just gaming and not overclocking i'd wait. An i7 2500 would be a great chip for him. Slap in a 6950 or a GTX 560ti and your laughing!
