To my understanding and research, the first partition will be located on the outside of the platter, thus being the fastest. The argument that I've seen is that you will never be booting your OS and running your games, so 2 partitions would work fine. BUT DON'T RELY ON MY INFO! I'm just a noob

Having read through this thread, I'm suprised no one really understood what cyborg was saying (i'm also suprised he kept his cool )

If you have a SS partition (for the OS) + another data partition on the disk, the head will be moving between the two as windows does a reasonable amount of disk IO post-boot. This obviously increases access time.

Boot times with a SS only partition and an SS+data partition will be similar, though.

Your drive is always doing things in the background, especially with the OS. Using multiple partitions and merely placing your OS on the outter edge is not true SS.
