[TPU] AMD Details Bulldozer Processor Architecture - Page 4

Good thing they made single threaded performance a priority. I'm still skeptical so I'll believe it when I see it.

Well, even though they were trolling, we should admit that they are right. If even AMD says bulldozer is eight cores, then who are we to argue that it is four cores.

True. Hopefully it will be something more concrete regarding its performance than "You will love it".

This week, at the International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC), the cool kids from AMD were hanging out and talking about “Bulldozerâ€, or, more specifically, some of the building blocks. (Don’t expect to see any chip-level benchmarks, or details about the launch, this is not that kind of show.)

So...I'm not expecting TOO much in terms of it's capabilities coming from tomorrows presentation. It sounds like it will be a lot of technical talk that I have little idea of what they're talking about.

I'm hoping Bulldozer will live up to it's promise.
It should if developement was done as per their collaboration agreements with IBM and later Toshiba [IIRC].
When AMD spun off Global Foundries as a seperate entity, that helped them lower their costs for new designs - someone else had to figure out how to make them work on their dime, not AMD's.
Considering that AMD's developement partners would benefit from the knowledge gained by the new designs,I would think that the new designs should be a definite step into a new evolution of processor.
Time will tell.

EDIT:
This Bulldozer Hype keeps me checking OCN like 8 times a day lol...

FAIL! I want bulldozer to come out so i can have my life back.
Fixed !

All the marketing hype stepped in the way of old fashion business fundamentals.

ISSCC is a place where all the big engineers & techs for the big dogs go to have a social gathering, lunch / dinner, and get drunk while laughing like they were not competitors.

"Haha, I can't believe those suckers brought USB 3.0, Light Peak is going to OWN!"

"You think that's bad, wait till they roll out those SSD/HDDs, what a fail..."

AMD > / <Intel
