The i7 is too powerful, and the Atom is too slow? It sounds like computers aren't really your thing.

No it's actually because you can write on them. The applications that businesses need can be on any platform, because a good 80-90% of them are custom-developed (either in-house or by a software firm). They use Windows because it's the easiest (and therefore cheapest) one to manage on client systems from an IT standpoint. But still, you can't make a sale and then hand a customer an ipad to sign on. And you'd also look very unprofessional showing up to a meeting and doing nothing but staring at the screen because you need to finger-in some notes.

First of all, this is irrelevant. Not only doesn't best buy sell to the business market, but they only sell one tablet PC (the s10-3t) and it sucks, it's like 10 years behind the rest of the market (no HD playback, no pen digitizer, old version of Atom, TN panel, etc). Of course noone's buying it, it's a piece of junk. And I've already said to you plain out that yes, the ipad is more popular with consumers. I'm not arguing with that.

Second, market success is great and all, but if you're making a purchasing decision based on how many OTHER people bought it then that's just dumb. If the iPad works for you, then great. But if it doesn't, it doesn't, and however many units your best buy sold last month isn't going to change that.

Besides, if we go by your logic, then that makes the Toyota Prius a better car than the Bugatti Veyron.
There's no justification to that, there's an incredibly stupid number of things that both things do. Saying that one is better every single time is just stupid.

i7's aren't to powerful, they just consume to much power.

There are stylus's for the iPad?

We have like 6 tablets at our store.

Agreed.

How does that work?

The hardware on tablet PC's are normally better, but because they have to run such a heavy OS, it's slower to do a lot of things.

Let's go back to the car analogy a second here.

If your commute to work every day is two hours of you sitting in stop and go traffic, then it doesn't matter if you bought the Bugatti or the Prius - either way it'll take the same amount of time to get there. And everything that makes the Bugatti a better car becomes useless.

You have the same idea here. Tablet PCs are WAY more powerful than the iPad. But if the way you want to use it means that all the extra options, configuration, and capabilities do absolutely nothing for you, then there's no reason to buy one.

So again, Tablet PCs can do everything the iPad can and they do it better. Whether or not you WANT any better is a whole different story.

Then explain how my laptop manages to get 16 hours of actual usage battery life with one.

Besides, any of the laptops that can have i7's can also have i5's or i3's, they all use the same socket. The point is that they use the same CPUs as other laptops, it's not like you have to have an Atom. If you want a nice middle ground there's the Lenovo x201t - it uses an i5-UM or i7-LM, and gets 11 hours battery life if you choose the pen only model (and 8 hours with the touchscreen).

Yeah, but have you ever tried using one side by side with a Wacom? The Wacom pens feel almost exactly like a pen/pencil/felt marker on paper, while the ipad styluses have these giant round tips (if you can even call it a tip) and still feels like you're using it on a piece of glass. And even if you can overlook that, there's still the problem where the ipad can't tell the difference between your palm and the stylus, so you can't rest your hand on the screen while writing otherwise you end up with a whole bunch of extra "ink", making it very impractical. Tablet PCs detect pen and touch input in two completely different ways, and as soon as the pen gets near the screen it knows to turn off/ignore the touch sensor.

Watch this and skip to 2:30 to see what you've got to do to make it work!

Compared to a tablet PC:

Well yeah, the Galaxy, Xoom, etc...but which tablet PCs do you have? The only one listed online is the S10-3T, and it's also the only one I've ever seen at the best buy near me (and they don't even carry it anymore).

Jeez, it would be nice to talk about possible features of the iPad 2 and how fans of it are excited for it. It's quite ridiculous arguing.

Manyak:

I've seen people use styluses on their iPads in my Math class specifically, and they have had no problem with their wrist/palm on it.

Also, the 2 Best Buys within a 50 mile radius of me have around 5-10 tablets on display and being demoed. Is it really that big of a deal?

Also, from personal experience of using Android and iOS, most applications just run smoother on iOS. Android still runs ridiculously fast, but most applications just feel more 'right'.

While you may be trying to seem unbiased, you're not. It's quite obvious you're not a fan of the iPad.

Whatever happened to keeping quiet if you don't have anything nice to say.

Anyhow, I'm excited for the new iPad 2. I was already considering one, but if it has these new features coming to it, I'll definitely invest in the new one. Would be nice to see a 128GB one, but that's just a dream .

Lol, Leave it to a moderator to derail a thread.

Anyways, the anticipation for me is growing, I can't wait to see what Apple has come up with, I hope they have a least a few things that are creative and NEW, not something that's been around for a while and manipulated to

I really don't think the jump in features is that drastic to justify an upgrade from an iPad 1. I'll be getting a Xoom more probably since it's got something relatively new - the Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS.

So far, not really. If you use it every day for work and school, then it might not be a bad idea to upgrade, as Apple products tend to hold their value, so you could resell it.

With iPods and stuff, I tend to upgrade every other.
