[Worklog] Project Reliablity, Another 800D build

Hi Guys,

So everyone's been a great help and I ordered all my stuff and it's arrived. I started building last night so I'm going to post my progress as well as questions.

My current hardware I'm going to be cooling is going to be my i7 920 and my two HD6950's in CF.

Going for a 360 rad with an additional 120 mounted on top and in back with a MCP35X pump + res. EK supreme HF cpu block with EK FC6970 full vga covers.

I'll be using Indigo Xtreme for the cpu TIM and shin-etsu for everything else.

Fluid should be distill plus kill coil, though I'm still debating about going the anti-freeze route instead of the coil for corrosion concerns with silver.

What it Currently Looks like

The Setup Plan

The Parts

There are 3 main questions I have so far before I start to finish off the build, which are first on the HD6950's there is a sticker covering one of the spots I put a thermal pad on. I took it off just to be safe but did I need to do that? has anyone see that before. See the picture below.

Second question is in the picture of the water blocks for the VGA, I saw alot of deep swirl marks obviously left from machining on the contact area (it's pretty visible in the photos). Is that going to effect temperatures significantly? Should I take it off and lap the block?

Third is in the second photo of the lapped area of the Supreme HF block, around the mounting hole there was what looked like water stains on the nickel that I couldn't remove at all, even using goo gone and the like, any idea what that stuff is?

The sticker shouldn't impede heat transfer that much and that's a part of the card that doesn't need as much cooling anyways. I'd leave them on.

The swirl marks are normal and will not affect temperatures.

Probably just an abnormality in the nickel plating, I wouldn't worry about it.

Finally, why are you mounting the pump outside of the case! The 800D is a behemoth that will easily fit that pump inside of it.

Yeah, I probably should have left the stickers on. Thanks for the answers.

I could fit the pump inside but I'd like the res to be somewhere I can keep an eye on the water level, plus it also means the pump/ res is at the highest level which should make for marginally better air bleeding.

I forgot to ask, I'm having trouble getting the 7/16th tubing over a few of the fittings (1/2") any recommendations?

Submerge the ends of the 7/16 tubing in hot/boiling water to loosen it up and it should be easier to put on.

To get 1/2" tubing over 7/16" Barbs all you have to do is put the end of the tubing into some hot water for about 30 seconds before trying to shove it over the barb. This will soften up the tubing considerably and make it a lot easier.
