i5 on-die GPU

Thread Starter
Hi all

As per my sig, I'm running a new i5 and a GTX 275 but was wondering; do games also use the GPU instruction set on the processor if I have a dedicated video card? I mean, does anyone know if the GPU is used in addition to the dedicated video card?

I cant seem to find anything conclusive on this topic.

cheers

Nope, the built in GPU is disabled when you install a dedicated GPU.

^Yep it's disabled. If you remember Hybrid SLI (which Nvidia no longer supports), that was attempt to use the IGP and dedicated card in a more efficient way. Unfortunately, that was all in theory, and the goal of Hybrid SLI fell short.

I'd assume if you built a rig for just web browsing and watching HD movies then it would do the job well enough.
