Finally I'll throw in the new motherboard which changes the PCI-E lane to dual 16x instead of dual 8x and OC the NB to 2.6 and re run the test.

Damn I probably won't get any work done tomorrow.
The price we pay, brother. Good luck!

Oh I forgot to ask. Am I holding these cards back by running them through my 1600x900 monitor? Should I buy a 1080P screen?

4Ghz sounds good, yes.
What exactly are your RAM, HDD and PSU?
It can help. I can assoisate chrome/steam/msn and stuff to cores 1 and 2, and then leave the other 4 cores for games.

They are definitely not being utilized well at that resolution. You could run your setup at 1920x1080 and probably not see a frame drop at all in most games.

Yes you are. VERY.

You have two options:

1. Return or sell the second HD6970; one is more than enough to run EVERYTHING at that resolution.

2. 1080P ? Better, but still not enough. With those two cards working together you can buy a 30 inch 2560x1600 monitor. That's the resolution two of those cards will take advantage of.

Oh god, I couldn't handle a 30 inch monitor. I'll try out a 1080P screen when I get the chance.

Oh, I guess I never really made it clear. As far as bottlenecking goes, I don't really care if I cap the cards off at like 120FPS or something, as long as everything stays above 60fps I will be happy.

The FPS in BC2 multiplayer can be tied to the server at times. I suggest you take your readings from a very unpopulated game.

Depends on the game, short answer yes, long answer, google it.

Servers cause lag, not fps drops.

The reason your fps drop is because of the havok physic being generated by 32 people, along with added explosions.

BF3 is coming out, supporting upto 64 players on PC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlefield_3

If you want to stay on top of the fps, go bulldozer or sb imo.

Here is a screengrab after playing BC2 for about half an hour. Seems to only be using about 60% load on my GPU's (sudden drops are from alt tabbing out) while sticking at around 90ish for CPU. This is overclocked to 4ghz and NB sticking at 2600. Dual 8x PCI-E link.
