Electrical tape on headphone wiring?

Thread Starter
Now you see I got my Grado Sr 80's today and I noticed they came with a crease on the wire. (i.e when you fold a straw and you see a crease.) So I'm thinking of getting some electrical tape to protect the wires because I'm afraid I'll rip the wire.

Does putting electrical tape on the wire or the crease on the wire affect sound quality?

Electrical tape will not affect sound quality by any means. How bad is the crease though, and are there exposed wires showing?

Heatshrink will work the best

Crease is visible if you take a look at it, however, there are no rips, verything is covered. I just want to be safe and not rip the crease open because that part of the wire in my opinion has been shrunk to 7/8's of its size. And isn't that heatshrink a little to fat? And does it stick?

If no wires are showing then there really isnt any need to put electrical tape on it. If you want to for peace of mind then it will not affect the sound quality at all.

You wouldn't notice any difference. I doubt there's a reason to tape it in the first place though.

a. You can use electrical tape to cover or to strengthen the portion where the crease is

b. Heatshrink tubing is, by it's name, shrink upon heat to conform to the diameter of the wire

After about a year usually, the crease rips and the wire will show.
