*sigh* So.. you're sure the 1155 mobos are fine as long as you stay with sata ports 1 and 0?

I suppose a larger hard drive may be in order. Just to make sure he doesn't need to use any more sata ports.

I don't suppose anyone has a definite date on when the fixed 1155 boards ship?

There aren't a lot of 7200RPM drives over 1TB (EDIT: in that price range).

If I'm getting him a 1155 board that only has use of 2 SATA ports then he needs a drive with ample space.

Ya know what? Unless the fixed boards come very soon then imma just get him a 1156 i5. Sandy Bridge is just too much hassle as it is right now.

New Asus boards are potentially only a week away, might be a good idea to wait for them?

get rid of the WD 1tb harddrive and get a Samsung 1tb F3 (which are faster) and save £25 then use some of that saved money to get a better powersupply, those cheap corsair units aren't good.

Why would the F3 (SATAII) be faster than the Caviar Black (SATAIII)?

I've done what you said and yes it looks like a better build. But why?

Mechanical HDDs will not need more bandwidth than SataII can provide, so the SataIII is just marketing. The F3 is the most recommended mechanical harddrive because its quiet, cheap, and fast.

I've got 2x F3s in raid0 and I still don't get bottlenecked by the SataII interface
